TSA - Assault? Inadmissible?

Hi all,

This is a question for a coworker for mine. I guess they asked me thinking I'd know because I am Canadian. LOL But I have no idea... but said I'd try to find out.

They are hoping to go to Vancouver for the women's soccer tournament or something like that that's happening at the end of June.

It's a group of 4 couples and 1 of the people in their group had an assault charge when he was 15 years old. He went to juvenile detention and can't purchase a firearm until he's 30 (he's now 29). When he was 15, he got into the wrong crowd. He followed his older brother hoping to be "cool". They went to an arcade or something like that and another group of guys decided to start a fight and a bunch of them were arrested and charged.

He has had no issues since then. He went to university and graduated and is now working at a medical device company. He has turned his life around and that person he was at 15 is not who he is today. He completely forgot about it until now, as it hasn't been an issue with school or employment etc. I was told he's been with his employer for the last 6 years.

If he was charged as a minor and had done his time etc. Does this affect him being able to enter?

Thanks!

Do they know any other Canadiens? I ask, 'cause TSA is a USA-police-squad, with federal ties into federal databases.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

No idea if the rest of the group knows any other Canadians. But for my coworker, I'm the only one she knows of with recent ties to Canada.

The only thing I knew of was DUI being inadmissible but that's because I watched Border Security a long time ago.

So, would he need to get a waiver? I'm assuming charges whether they were a minor or adult is irrelevant.

Unfortunately, I don't have much information as my husband and I and all of his friends have clean records so I don't know any American's with charges like that trying to visit Canada.

This is what I found:

"Young Offenders

You may have been convicted of an offense during your youth. Generally, if you were convicted of an offense when you were under eighteen years old, you will likely be admissible and can enter Canada.

Offenses committed when you were under eighteen years old are equivalent to offenses under the Youth Criminal Justice Act in Canada.

You can not be prevented from entering Canada for foreign offenses equivalent to an offense under the Canadian Youth Criminal Justice Act."

Hope that helps.

Thanks! I'll forward that.

Maybe it wouldn't hurt if they provided some references from colleagues and mentors of his current and past character (post incident). I know I brought a lot of 'proof' when my husband and I were going through the K1 process.

Thank you.

na, I was hoping there was another 'token Canadien' somewhere with TSA experience.

but what you need is a 'token American' that holds a passport and drives across to Windsor daily and loves to fight in Detroit. That fella would have the answer for you.

Keep calm! You are immigrating to US. Where majority of people don't even consider it a "real sport".

And interestingly enough, nobody in US gives a ####### about US soccer team either. It's only Canadian I seen who actually watch and support US team in Fifa.

Twocastles not trying to stalk you but I noticed that we both had our Naturalization interview on the same date at the Buffalo Field Office. I called USCIS yesterday and the officer that I spoke to told me that I would be doing the April 14th oath ceremony in Buffalo at 1pm. I haven't seen an update on line yet nor have I gotten anything in the mail.

The only reason that I posted here was to ask if you could pm to let me know if you get the same oath date and also when your letter arrives in the mail.
