How did (or are you ) dealing with the separation during the waiting process?

Reading some experiences I feel lucky of our situation. My husband is Canadian, we are both self-employed have time to visit back and forth. On average we see each other every other week. It's hard because we can't settle in anywhere until our case is resolved. But we are lucky enough to have the time to travel back and forth to see each other.

Tried to keep busy with work / school as much as possible. Used lots of Whatsapp through out the day, Google hangouts calls, skype, Viber, etc. Visited my wife in India three times in 12 months. Her visa was finally approved yesterday, and she is coming to Chicago on the 23rd. It's definitely not easy, and on some nights I definitely thought I was going to lose it, quit my well paying job and move to India until she gets her visa. Thanks to technology and all these different means of communication, we made it through. We are finally counting down hours instead of months and weeks.

Good luck to everyone who is still going through this insanely long journey! If you can make it through this faithfully, you will make it through anything.

I traveled every 3 months or so to visit my wife, Skype (10 hour difference), emailed, and as others have said kept busy with work/hobbies. Dating/marrying someone from a different country is not easy, but we all chose this path. This will pass and you will forget all about this part of the process and move on with your life.

My wife's Visa just got issued last week, 15 months after getting married. At start it was really tough and I would try to release the pain in stupid ways. After a few months we limited our communication to a few minutes a day and texting rather than 24/7 because we would just miss each other too much and the time difference (10 hours) was too much as well at times.

I recommend that you start an exercise routine and improve yourself everyday to be the best spouse you can be

Just keep the big picture in mind and think of the years ahead, not the current weeks and months

All the best

Daily picture video calls & messages not a single day without. He's been on a deployment from September till end of April. Plus he got stationed state side February last year. We didn't seen us since last June. But how one can see it works if you really want to keep everything alive and love is strong enough. It's been damn hard at the beginning..but now we just look forward to the day we finally are back together ?

Before we applied for the k1 and after we applied we Skyped...

And I mean we Skyped!!!! Constantly.

We left it on when we were at work, sleeping, out of the house,

Our calls lasted days until they disconnected and after that we just called each other again.

we slept together, watched tv together, ate together and sometimes cooked the same meals and watched the same movie together.

We tried to make being apart like being together as much as possible.

Our calls would be 70 hours or more.

So on our worst days where we missed each other the most, we were always with each other.

A simple call here and there wouldn't work.

And when we weren't at home together we texted constantly.

We would chat on FB atleast 2 hours a day. Sometimes all night long. I think the 2 years we were a part we maybe missed 7 days total and that was becuase she was traveling to visit family.

I would take step by step photo's of things I would be doing like cooking etc. and send them to her. She would send me photo's of our daughter and things she was doing. Skyping was hit or miss..I would get so frustrated trying to skype..The internet connection in the PI is horrible.

Somedays the chat conversations would get repetitive but we still would spend the time at it.

Hang in there. The wait to reunite is so worth it! My wife and daughter have been here for two months and its the greatest thats ever happen to me.

I haven't seen my husband since January, and before that it was a year since I'd seen him. You won't survive unless you have complete trust in your spouse and faith that the waiting will be worth it. I try to take all of the waiting as a blessing in disguise because it makes you appreciate every little moment you have with your spouse when you're with them. It also makes you realize how much they mean to you and how much you're willing to do for them. We rarely fight but when we do it's usually because we're both so stressed out and tense about the situation. Don't let this distance and time come between you and always remember why you're doing it in the first place. Good luck and YES, it will all be worth it. (Even though it's still not over for me).

"A million years if I could live,
A thousand lives if I could give,
I would spend it all again with you,
Don't forget where you belong,
Only with me you are strong,
Not even the gods above can break,
Baby what we have"

I feel your pain! The separation when I waiting for my husband to get his visa was horrible. It is pretty much impossible to video chat with Cuba, so I was forced to rely on phone calls and emails. I had to pay about .60 a minute for our phone calls, so it was a big drain on the pocket book. We would fb chat every day and then send pictures back and forth. The waiting seems endless but somehow we make it through.

This is why I love Visa Journey. There's times I've tried to explain being on Skype for days and ppl looked at me weird. WHen I downloaded my log to send with the I-130 it was hugggeee.

Haha, me too!

It was harder explaining it to my family and friends!

When I moved home before the big move to the states my mom found it funny, she would hear snoring in my room when I wasn't home and of course it was the hubby!

I thought it was normal for those of us in this situation!

My husband and I talk daily sometimes 5 or 6 a day. We stay encouraged through faith and our belief in God, knowing that we will be together soon. It's not easy, but keep your head up and pray for strength daily. Be Blessed

We use skype everyday after work. It might sound silly, but we let the call go through the night and fall asleep together. We send pictures and always communicate by text messages. We've been together for 3 years now and still a strong couple.

What I also did is I borrowed one of his hoodie. (I am the woman and he was nice enough to leave one to me ^.^)

There is some little details that can help, but I think Skype, viber and all the applications that let you have a video conversations are a great thing.

One of you can also visit, but it can be a costly solution.

And just tell yourself yes the wait is long, but in the end it's worth it ;).

This is exactly what my fiance and I did. We had an 8 year long distance relationship.. it was rough, but now that he's arrived in the states last week, it's worth it.

We talked each day on my break at work (5 hour time difference, he's ahead) for 30 minutes. Then when I got home, I would call him. We talked for an hour, then he went to bed. We let the call go through the night (thank god for Skype and unlimited internet) and I woke him for work in the morning before I went to bed. We texted a lot, sent pictures, and spent almost the entire weekend every weekend on Skype. It really helped. He also let me keep one of his hoodies safe for him until he arrived.

It really helps to keep as in touch as possible. It was the UK and USA so our data connections were much more stable than the OP, but as much 'face time' as you can get to do, do it.

I haven't seen my fiance in five months (which is still considered nothing given other's cases) and it's definitely been very difficult.

Being able to Skype almost daily and the fact that everyday that passes is a day closer to being together permanently is definitely a solace, and helps the situation not seem so extreme.

I find working a lot and spending time with the family and friends I do have here makes the time go by faster.

Hoping your journey isn't too long, good luck!
