Do the animals need to be protected? YES YES YES. Absolutely without question.

If you have travelled to South Africa, namely the Kruger National Park, and stayed there you would understand that hunting endangered species is NOT the way to go about conserving them. The cost of staying in a Reserve is sometimes equal to killing one of these creatures. I cannot justify killing an animal to save them. Not when I pay just as much to see them as someone would pay to kill them. NO WAY, NO HOW.

So come here and tell me I am wrong, I know from many experiences that is NOT the right way to go about Conservation. It is not ethically right or economically right or ecologically right.

So please, come here an tell me otherwise.

Yes I agree, conservation does not involve slaughter unless the population is growing out of control, which is clearly not the case.

That teengage US girl posing next to endangered species does NOTHING for conservation. All it does is show how wealthy US citizens are allowed to slaughter animals unchecked.

My bad, there was a recent article with a US teen girl. Quite frankly, I don't care how young/old the person is, it's still wrong.

All these side arguments about the good it does towards conservation - just donate the $45k if you're really that passionate and wealthy enough for it. If you're happy that the meat goes to local villagers - send them food aid instead. If you're concerned about an old bull spreading disease in a herd - tranquillise it and put it down humanely, instead of with an arrow to the face. And last of all, don't pose proudly next to a corpse like you're Ed Gein. It's just completely shameless and revelatory of an unnecessary death. The over-privileged blood-crazed proponents of trophy hunting will argue these points - that somehow, their desire to senselessly kill brings good to the world, that it may even be a necessary act - until they are blue in the face to try and detract from the real point of it; which is that actively enjoy murdering a sentient being that cannot defend itself in equal terms.

I doubt realistically that with Africa going the way it is many will survive. Just a question of when, just look at the demographics.

If any do then it will be because there is money in it, either culling the weakest, and/or through tourism.
