I would have to say majority of the time, the US government doesn't care.

Just like people who become US citizens but say the oath is "just words." If it's "just words" what does that say about you?

Husband did what is described at point 2, without the intention of relinquishing is US nationality, so... still American. Maybe he'll renounce at retirement, we'll see how much of a hassle it is to deal with the IRS then.

Begs the question how you came to that conclusion, anyway there are a lot of yanks who have moved to the UK and are now duals as well as I am sure many in Canada.

Just acquiring another citizenship will not lose your US one, a lot of bending over needed to do that.

The one that always gets me is the cheque vs. bill. When you receive a cheque, it's usually money that is given to you. When you receive a bill, it's something that you have to pay (phone, utility, etc.). So the very fact that Americans ask for the cheque at a restaurants makes NO sense. Oh, and they spell it "check". Don't get me started on the imperial/metric. I mean, I love America, but goddamn, why you gotta be so weird!

Im used to check vs bill. I only write cheque when i am writing a cheque.

But my hubs hates when I say pop instead of soda (he grew up with coke and figures he is already conpromising... lol) He also makes fun of me when I say toque. I refuse to call it a beanie.

A check is a check for paying and for receiving. A bill is something passed in Congress or a persons name.

As with the Soda/Coke/Pop debate, that's just state by state. Most of mid to north will say pop or coke, and soda is more east coast, Arizona/California and Missery (Missouri) while coke is more southern. I've always just said soda...

Soda is common here in Colorado. Hubs is from Alabama which is why he grew up saying "coke." I grew up saying Pop in BC. I only write cheque when referring to a Canadian cheque anymore. Otherwise it's check. I was explaining toque to people today. They all looked at me like I had a 3rd eyeball. LMAO
