I have a personal question... I'm not sure if you guys could answer it but I wanted to ask first here before I make a new thread.

I want to send my fiancé the paperwork he needs for the interview such as the letter of intent, copy of NOA2, and the affidavit but I'm a bit stuck on the affidavit part.

So I am a college student graduating in December of this year. I have a part time job and I made around 12,000 last year. So of course I know I need a co-sponsor. I have two options .. mom or dad.

My dad makes like $60,000+ a year however he's actually going through the spousal visa now (very awkward I know) and I know that he is bringing his wife and her daughter. So I don't know how exactly could that jeopardize me because I know it asks on the I-134 paper if they have done this before with another person. Also his household size confuses me because I don't know if his wife and daughter count.. I think they are suppose to come in like June. Also he has done this before with my mom and brother (my family is from South America). I don't know I just feel like using him is a bit more complicated.

My mom on the other hand makes around 26,000 last year (she receives alimony from my dad too which is included in this amount). So I'm guessing it would be better to use her. The household size would include me, her, and my fiancé am I right? The minimum amount for 3 people is around 25,000 so it is cutting it close. I just don't want them to think "oh it's close to the amount" and have them doubt our case. I guess what I'm asking is which parent should I use to be on the safe sound in regards to that aspect. Thank you so much in advanced! Sorry for it being a long post haha.

Also welcome to the new approvals!! :dancing:

You could use dad but you are better off using your mom if she don't claim any other dependents. The combine income 12,000 plus 26,000 will be looked at.

Oh well this makes me feel a lot better haha. I'm her only dependent. I thought that the cosponsor had to make at least $26,000.. thank you for the clarification! I wanted to mail these papers to my fiancé just in case I'm not able to make it to the interview. I'm hoping our case will be on its way to Rio by the end of this month :) Your case is already being sent to the embassy in Haiti right?

Yes my case was delivered today although the Ceac website says in transit. I know there's a lot of confusion on whether its 125% or 100% of the federal poverty level. K1 visa the income requirement is 100% above the federal poverty level.

If you are interviewing in the UK, you won't need any additional evidence.

Start by gathering police and birth certs and make sure your passport has sufficient validity on it. In about 2-3 weeks call NVC to get your case number. With the case number make the appointment for the medical and get that sorted. Fill DS-160 and pay the visa fee as well once you have the case number.

Can we already start requesting police certificates before receiving the checklist from the Embassy? Also, does any one have an idea how long these usually take?

Thanks!! :)

I was using this guideline... but I guess my mom still makes a little more than $25,112 so either way she is still qualified.

Yes she does that guide you are using is for form I-864 she is for AOS. For K1 I-134 is required and for that you would need 100 percent of the poverty level. Anyways hope you get your case number soon.
