Hello all,

I was just wondering if I have to apply for advance parole with AOS or if, given the fact that I don't actually plan on traveling outside the country before receiving my green card, I could bypass it. I'm a German citizen, if this helps. If I only travel within the United States before my Green Card arrives, what kinds of documents would I need? Is my German passport enough even if it doesn't reflect the change in my last name due to marriage?

If I do apply for AP, do I need to know my travel dates in advance?

Thanks a bunch!

Do you want EAD?

Since there is no cost for applying then it's generally a good idea to apply for it, even if you don't need it. It's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

You can hand-write in "Unknown" for expected dates of travel. You never know what kind of emergency situations may arise in the future - before your green card is issued - that may necessitate foreign travel for you.

You dont have to apply for it, but it doesnt cost any extra and with the delays of up to a year and more for AOS right now then it might be wise to apply for it in case of a family emergency or such. As for travelling around the country your passport and a copy of marriage certificate should suffice.

It is optional, but I strongly suggest you file for the AP too. The fee for it is waived, same as for the EAD when filed with a pending I-485. I have seen posts where people had not filed for it and wished they had when things changed and they needed to travel abroad after all. Better to have it on hand just in case.

No reason or explanation is needed. Leave the date and length of trip of blank, then hand-write Unknown after printing out the form. It is a fairly short and easy to fill out form, since an AOS applicant skips a lot of it.
