I am seeing that some have had their letter of intent to marry notarized but when I went through the guide it doesn't say that it needs to be notarized.

I'm in Canada---does it need to be notarized?

Thanks

Angel

I don't see in the instructions either where it needs to be notarized. I guess it can't hurt anything to have it notarized?

Timeline:

02/20/2005 - Met first time in Bangkok, Thailand

08/30/2007 - Received K-1 Visa from US Embassy Bangkok

10/05/2007 - Arrived POE at Washington DC

10/09/2007 - "Official" Wedding Ceremony in Rockville, Maryland

10/23/2007 - Apply for SSN

12/19/2007 - AOS transfered to CSC

12/27/2007 - EAD/AP approved

01/05/2008 - Received EAD Card

It's their choices but it doesn't really have to be notarized... plain and simple letter stating you're both free and legal to marry and will do so within 90 days upon entering US is all it takes... Just make sure to sign and date it (to be safe). As far as I know, its the I-134 that needs to be notarized and will be used for the interview.

The instructions are your guide, try not to read more into the instructions. It does not say that this is to be done so therefore the answer is NO...

YMMV

I wasn't reading into the guide, but rather the other posts on here. And not reading into them, but reading them. I have read in a number of postings that they sent a notarized letter of intent. I just wanted to clarify in case it was something that was perhaps missing from the "guide"

I am not asking you to read into the guides, my suggestion was to read and follow the instructions. I am not aware of there being anything missing from the instructions.

My fiance just got his K-1 through Vancouver. We did not notarize the original letters of intent sent in with the I-129F nor did we notarize the updated letter of intent that we gave at his interview. Just sign and date and you will be fine!

No, you suggested that I was "reading into them" not asking me to read in to them. As for the instructions or anything missing from them -I quote the top of the page "Please understand the Terms of Service before following the links below. This information is provided in the most general of terms and is not intended to address any specific case. "

which was why I asked about it and mentioned I was from Canada. Sometimes a simple "no" works real well.

Thanks to everyone who did just give me a kind yes or no answer.

Notarizing only attests to the the validity of a signature on a document - nothing more.

Only the I-134 needs to be notarized unless your consulate has other requirements.
