QUESTION ON GETTING A SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER (SSN)

hi guys , my fiance arrive January 21 2015 and we went to get her SSN on February 2 2015.. the office said they can not process her application for the SSN she is not in there system yet. so they need to verify her documents with the Federal State Government and immigration before issuing her a social security card..

Question :

how long does it take for her documents to get verified ?????

and how long after to get her SSN card in the mail after her documents get verified????

anyone was in the same situation and can give me a time frame ?????

it is usuallly suggested to wait about two weeks after POE and, looks like your spouse is at that point so, i would check back at the ssa offices end of the week?

Usually it takes about 2-3 weeks for the POE data to show up in their computers. You probably went a week too early.

and how long after to get her SSN card in the mail after her documents get verified????

About 10 business days.

Hopefully you filed in her maiden name, if you are already married.

Should be able to get ssn straight away. Don't need to wait weeks because the I-94 is electronic now.

Sounds like maybe you went after marriage?

Best to get it before marriage in maiden name.

Simply because the ss office employees are kinda dumb when it comes to the k1.

Sounds like what happened to me when I went to change my name after marriage, the documents the are requiring .

They basically need my EAD because it is a government official document showing my new name.

Hypnos- does fiancé and fiancée really matter on here? Not exactly a big issue.

I would further add that it materially changed my answer to the OP's question, since it was a woman applying for a social security number based on a K-1, for which it makes a difference whether they applied in her married name or maiden name. That is one small example of what I am talking about.

The fact that he said her, well that kinda made this a moot point.

I don't think one letter off a word brings down the standards.

Don't get me wrong I hate certain laziness in typing, especially when someone mixes up your and you're.

My little point was, not everyone knows about fiancé and fiancée and I don't think its a big enough deal to point out.

Same way not everyone can type well or knows grammar well, I certainly don't.

But I don't pick on something relatively tiny.

If this is all deleted by a mod, well so be it.

we not married yet . we will get married in march, we went to the SS office, the first lady that took care of us didn't know about k1 visa are able to get ssn so she called the manager . the manager said they will proceeded with her ssn when her documents are verified ..

Go back, talk to a manager/supervisor.

With a k1 you are entitled to a ssn.

They didn't know what they are talking about, you need an I-94 print out (bare in mine you can only get a ssn up to two weeks before it expires) your passport obviously with the visa also.

You don't need any anything else to clarify your status in the states.
