Boiler, I am assuming you either had to get something like a marriage license or after you had a religious ceremony you REGISTERED your marriage certificate with the local registrar.

This would be an issue for ANY religious ceremony. Similarly in USA if someone has a religious ceremony only, we need to get a marriage license which then gets filed with the clerk of the court, of we go and have a civil ceremony in City Hall.

I understand you are from Wales but I am sorry to say you are not familiar with the legal side of things. Please be so kind to check the link I posted which is legislation reference of laws. There is also a plethora of cases which demonstrates this very solution.

OP is concered with having the marriage be LEGALLY recognised.

Most religious weddings do not require a civil service, my understanding in this sort of case they do.

Yeah. Islamic marriages performed in the UK DEPENDS on civil registration to be legal in the UK.

Just pointing out that your original post is comply wrong, "You can get married in the UK in just a religious service." Sure you can, it's just not a legal marriage under UK laws until it's registered civilly.

As an example, most Church of England marriages. I know gay marriage does not count, believe there are others.

Even marriages that take place in the Church of England, there have to be certain rules followed in order for the marriage to be legally recognised. For example reading of the banns. If the banns are not read, that procedure can be replaced by the common licence.

So you see, it is not enough to be married IN the Church of England, procedures still have to be followed to ensure that the union is legally recognised.

No its not.

Unless you've given notice the UK authorities (Local register officer) and the mosque you got married in has got the marriage license then no unfortunately it is not legal. Also bare in mind when you've given notice it also takes 15 days before you can actually get married.

Trust me on this I've done a lot of research and that's how it is.

You're married under the eyes of Islam but not legally in the UK therefore the US authorities won't accept it. If you however got married in an Muslim country who legalise it then it would've been different but the fact that you got married in the UK you have to follow the UK law.
