Hi! My fiancé and I just received our NOA2! We are in the process of collecting documents for Packet 3, and have a question about the passport.

His passport expires on November 1st, 2015 and we are aware that the passport must not expire at least 8 mos. before you get the visa.

He is traveling abroad to Bucharest and needs a passport on 2/20 and since it's more then 6 weeks away from when he's applying for a new passport we're worried about him getting it back in time to travel. We're wondering what the best option is so that he can have a passport to travel and also have a current passport for the visa process. We will most likely get packet 3 by 2/21 and get our interview by 4/21. Here are our questions:

1) Is a passport required when submitting documents with packet 3?

2) What is the best option to get this process done the quickest?

My passport expires in October. I was worried about this too. But I've read from USEM -JAPAN webpage it'll needs at least 6 months prior to arrival in America. I have submitted a copy of the data page as it is part of the requirements on packet 3. I'm waiting for response from them.

Your case might not even make it to NVC in a month, much less to London, so your timeline planning isn't necessarily valid.

1. For a London K1 visa, no documents are submitted with "packet 3". The documents all go to the interview. At the interview they will want to see that the passport that will get a visa glued in it is valid for 6 or 8 more months. (It says different things in different places so plan for 8).

2. There are ways to expedite a British passport...same day even if desperate.

2. There are ways to delay a UK interview until you have a new passport. Don't submit the Readiness for Interview Form until you are actually ready to interview.

And the question you didn't ask--

"What if I have a different passport number at my interview than the one in the fiancé petition?"

It doesn't matter to London. They don't care.

Thank you so much! What documents are needed in the readiness for interview packet?

It isn't a packet. It is a form to submit online when you have everything in hand needed for the London interview. That would be your documents like birth certificate, police certificate, passport valid for 8 months etc....

It is your way to say "I am ready".

Now would be a good time for you to move your attention to the UK forum because each consulate has their own way of doing things. This guide for London will help you. http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/474161-london-k1-a-complete-guide/.

It is pinned at the top of the UK forum and it is a little tired, being two years old, but still mostly valid information written in detail. There are some broken links and some changes, most notably bringing phones, calling the Dept of State (DOS) for info, and number of passport photos needed. But any changes are noted further along in the thread if you will take time to read all of it. It isn't that long.

Document link on the London website http://london.usembassy.gov/application_documents.html Read all the "for mor information" links too where there is more detail.
