Hi guys,

Just received my date for the interview and it mentions that you must bring your current passport to the interview. My current national country is OK with dual citizenship and doesn't concern itself with oaths in other countries, such as when taking the US citizenship oath.

My question is, at the naturalization interview do USCIS expect you to hand over your current passport and they take it away forever? I should imagine that they aren't allowed to do this but I want to be sure.

Thanks for any advice

They won't take away your foreign passport. In all likelihood they won't even ask you to produce it. You will be required to surrender your greencard in exchange for the naturalization certificate. You need not worry about your passport.

Congrats & good luck!!

They ask about that if you travelled overseas after the interview so they can verify your travel dates. If you didn't travel don't worry about it

Ah! I didn't know they checked for exits/entries completed after the interview... Makes sense though...

Yes, they won't take it away from you. I had to give it to them just for the duration of the interview and they were looking for it for the entry stamps.

I had my three old ones along with my current one with me. With only a five year passport in Canada, you accumulate them pretty fast. It was full of the entry/exit stamps though the IO didn't ask to see them at all. They just want it to verify your travel dates if they so desire. They won't take it from you now or at the oath. You will need to surrender your green card at the oath ceremony.

They just want to see your passport to see how many times have you traveled and how many days you have stayed gone outside the US. They will not take it from you!

I was told to bring my current and old passport(s) to the interview but the IO didn't even look at them. I don't know how it works for other countries but my British passport states, "This passport remains the property of Her Majesty's Government in the United Kingdom" and as such the passport doesn't actually belong to me but rather the British government and cannot (or rather *should* not) be taken by another government or its representatives.

Well, I applied slightly early as you can do so within 90 days of the 3 year date you received your green card as a spouce of an American citizen. That was 1st November I sent in my n400. Had the biometrics test around 5th December and then received the letter a few days ago with a mid February date for the interview. So I guess it will be about 4 months from application until interview.

I actually have no idea how long it takes to go to the oath ceremony after a successful interview? I've heard that some places do the oath right then and there, is there a list somewhere of which places do this?
