You can't use your primary home or vehicle for the affidavit of support. One of the clauses on assets is that liquidating them must not cause undo harm. ( leave you homeless or carless ) If you have other property you can use a recently appraised value for it. Savings are usable as is.

The advice in this thread is very good. If the U.S. embassy in Laos is like those in Vietnam or Cambodia, you might have an extremely tough time proving a bona fide relationship, particularly after an immediate engagement when you objectively appear to be on the rebound. To improve your prospects of success, I strongly recommend that you develop a longer relationship history that includes at least two more trips and a considerable amount of "face time" together.

This is not just for the sake of getting the visa, but for your own security. There are many things about each other that you haven't learned about yet. The e-mail/Skype/phone aspect of a relationship can go swimmingly, but the time and interaction in person trumps all of that.

2. Read "Embassy Info" and "Reviews: Embassy" for Laos-specific questions WAY in your future.
