K1 Medical Examination yielded no new vaccinations with Doctor saying "don't worry, you'll get these in the states"

Hey there again,

So my fiance just had her medical exam. She brought her immunization record to the US consulate-verified doctor who then told her that she didn't need any new vaccinations because she would be receiving them in the states.

This kind of has me worried since getting anything medical done in the US is horrendously expensive and it seems to me that she can probably get the exact same vaccinations that she will need for the adjustment of status done in Colombia by a certified practitioner.

Does anyone have any light they can shed on this situation with regards to what her options are and whether or not this is anything legitimate to get worried about?

Many thanks again, just 8 days 'till the interview!

Some vaccines are one in a lifetime some need a repeat. What i'd do is go to the CDC site and get the immnization protocol (which is what USCIS goes by), in there it is listed what is needed by who (by age, gender, etc); and you would see which ones need a repeat.

Then have your love one get those at any hospital/clinic in COlombia that can provide a record.

A lot depends on the current age of your fiancee

I used to have this doc, but that long ago, when we were doing the K-1. BUt it is not hard to find.

Many thanks, your suggestion has pointed me in a promising direction. I still have to do some digging but I'd imagine the rationale was rooted in policy. Like perhaps they are unable to give one of the specific vaccinations needed because the Colombia variants don't meet US standards, etc.

Whatever the case may be, we are going to make some phone calls tomorrow. The doctor still signed off on the form that needs to be sent to the US consulate but do you by any chance know if only these doctor's vaccinations will be accepted with the coming AOS we will have to conduct upon her arrival?

Thanks again, so much =)

The best advice would have been to get the vaccinations elsewhere in colombia before the medical exam so that they could at least be transcribed on the DS-3025. That is no longer an option.

The best thing now is to just get the vaccinations here or there, and you will just have to see a civil surgeon to get them transcribed on a I-693 form before filing your AOS.

And the vaccinations you would receive in colombia are accepted and what you would receive here in the US.

What I did (in The Netherlands) is first grab a copy of my old (childhood) records... but failed,

as we lost it during some of our moves. Ohwell. Then, talked to my doctor, who told me to look

up the list of shots needed (with their official, Latin names) for my age and to bring him that, so

he could figure out which ones to 'do'.

I got 'the list' from this official U.S. website:

http://www.cdc.gov/immigrantrefugeehealth/exams/ti/civil/vaccination-civil-technical-instructions.html#tbl1

and then wrote down the ones for my age.

The doc verified my list, and then ordered the shots needed. A week later, I got them, and he documented

these in an Internationally recognized 'yellow book' passport-like style booklet, with stamps and dates.

This booklet, along with a signed statement from him that he gave me those shots 'as documented', I took

with me to my medical (in Amsterdam), and there, the doctor decided I was 'up to date' on shots and did not

need any more. My copy of the official report has the "Requesting blanket waiver" checkbox checked,

meaning, I do not need any shots in the U.S.

The whole procedure cost me, pff, about $50 or so, booklet included! ;-)

So, WHERE POSSIBLE, get your shots (see above table) locally, as that WILL save her tons of money later!

Hope this helps..

And the vaccinations you would receive in colombia are accepted and what you would receive here in the US.

This is the best advice. Get them there. For each vaccination visit, get the shot(s) entered into an official booklet, or -- for each shot -- get TWO signed and stamped printed verifications from the doctor or clinic.

If she can get them between now and the interview, have her show the verifications to the CO and have her ask him to send her back to the panel physician to get the completed form.

If the redoing of the form isn't feasible, take the verifications to the U.S. to show to the civil surgeon.

Mrs. T-B.-to-be was missing a couple of shots, and I took her to the County Health Department. Each was $20 or $10, which wasn't bad. The nurses there added them to the shot record that Mrs. T-B.-to-be had brought with her from Ecuador.

The short answer is that there's more than one way to skin this cat, and rather easily so.

The vaccinations are not required for the K-1. Some countries don't even bother with them for K-1 applicants. That is not good for the immigrant though, since that means you need to get the vaccinations on your own and then find a civil surgeon in the US that will not insist on overcharging and/or insisting on a new medical that is not required for a K-1. You can search here on VJ about that, and look for the civil surgeons that don't rip you off thread.

For AOS, you need one in a series of MMR, Tdap/TD, varicella(unless you already had the chickenpox) and the flu shot(during flu season only of Oct. - Mar.).

Nope. Vaccinations fro many source will be accepted as long as a record is available. Upon arrival to the US, as the other post noted, you'll need to get them transcribed by a civil surgeon; when you do that, you might want to check various as their fees vary quite a bit. There was a thread here a couple of years ago in which several members posted surgeons in a number of cities/states.

When we did our AOS, the surgeons in Houston were quite expensive, while the one we found in Denver was a decent fee and no wait.
