Florida authorities say 1 police officer shot and killed

TARPON SPRINGS, Fla. (AP) — Florida authorities say a police officer was shot and killed in Tarpon Springs early Sunday.

The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said in a statement that the shooting occurred at around 3 a.m. in the Tampa Bay-area city and that a suspect has been taken into custody.

The Tarpon Springs Police Department identified the fallen officer as 45-year-old Charles Kondek, a 17-year veteran of the local police department. Originally from New York, Kondek had previously served on the New York City Police Department for more than five years, authorities said.

Authorities say Kondek responded to a call for service after 2 a.m. Police said the suspect shot at the officer and then fled the scene in a vehicle and crashed into a pole and another vehicle. He was then apprehended by police at that location.

WNYW, the local New York City Fox affiliate, reports that New York Police Department officers turned their back on Mayor Bill de Blasio after two of their own were shot execution style earlier today in Brooklyn:

"Look what happened: this is video of the mayor arriving for this evening's press conference on the shooting. You can see officers turning their backs on the mayor as he approached the lectern," said the local host.

"Let me show you what you didn't see in the official press conference. In this phone video given to me by police sources at the scene, you see officers including PBA president Pat Lynch turning their backs on Mayor de Blasio as walked into [the] hospital to speak with a police officer's family," the reporter added.

Good for them. The cops are entirely right on this one. This mayor is leading the charge by poisoning the atmosphere, tying the police's hands, and fostering this anti-cop attitude here.

“The Policeman”

A policeman is a composite of what all men are, mingling of a saint and sinner, dust and deity.

What that really means is that they are exceptional, they are unusual, they are not commonplace. Buried under the froth is the fact: and the fact is, less than one-half of one percent of policemen misfit the uniform. And that is a better average than you would find among clergymen!

What is a policeman? He, of all men, is at once the most needed and the most wanted. A strangely nameless creature who is “sir” to his face and “pig” or worse to his back.

He must be such a diplomat that he can settle differences between individuals so that each will think he won.

But…If the policeman is neat, he is conceited; If he’s careless, he’s a bum. If he’s pleasant, he’s a flirt; If he’s not, he’s a grouch.

He must make instant decisions which would require months for a lawyer.

But…if he hurries, he’s careless; If he’s deliberate, he’s lazy. He must be first to an accident, infallible with a diagnosis. He must be able to start breathing, stop bleeding, tie splints and above all, be sure the victim goes home without a limp.

The police officer must know every gun, draw on the run, and hit where it doesn’t hurt. He must be able to whip two men twice his size and half his age without damaging his uniform and without being “brutal.” If you hit him…he’s a coward. If he hits you…he’s a bully.

The policeman, from a single human hair, must be able to describe the crime, the weapon, the criminal and tell you where the criminal is hiding. But…if he catches the criminal, he’s lucky; if he doesn’t, he is a dunce.

He runs files and writes reports until his eyes ache, to build a case against some felon who will get “dealed out” by a shameless shamus.

The policeman must be a minister, a social worker, a diplomat, a tough guy and a gentleman

And of course, he’ll have to be a genius…for he will have to feed a family on a policeman’s salary.

If you use the same criteria that was used in the Sanford and Ferguson cases, this by itself should be a racially motivated crime. Here's the difference though. There was ZERO evidence that race played a part in either Sanford or Ferguson. In this case the killer made it crystal clear that he was going to kill a cop.

I see no resolution to the divide the current regime has created. Hats off to 'em. They did an excellent job of scorched earth and it's a helluva lot more lasting than popping all the W-keys off the computer keyboards before the last passing of the reins. Race relations have never been worse in my lifetime, and a long walk past the 20 year marker.

Suspected gunman Ismaaiyl Brinsley was arrested 19 times in three states before he allegedly executed two New York Police officers in Brooklyn, WABC, New York, reported Sunday. The 28-year-old claimed the deaths of his victims were revenge killings for Eric Garner and Michael Brown, two black men killed by white police officers.

Brinsley was arrested in Georgia for shoplifting, carrying a concealed weapon, robbery, obstruction of a law enforcement officer and disorderly conduct, WBAC said. In Ohio, he was detained for robbery and theft, and then in Brooklyn, where his family resides, he was arrested on various charges.

I believe if the cops he came across were black…he would have still shot them. So IMO race has little to do with this case. However, my mind can be changed with other evidence. I am sure if he had been saying he was going to kill white cops….someone will report it.

i think you'd be surprised at the levels of self destruction inbred rednecks can achieve with little to no effort.
