No such "rule" but there is discretionary autonomy given to the CO-consular officer based on cultural norms of the country (and the people) in a petition. For example, it is often common that men are older than (and sometimes much older) in some cultures and not so much that the woman is older; in other countries/cultures that is irrelevant.

Not to say it disqualifies people. There are plenty of couples here that do not precisely fit in the cultural template of their respective cultures and a big age diff in either side had not been a problem; but from what I'v eread, it need a better level of documentation of the relationship.

There is no age gap of 20 years or any years. You just have to be legal to marry. With a HUGE age gap, I suppose they could give you a little harder time at the interview. If you have the proper paper work and have evidence of your relationship it is not up to immigration to decide what age category you should choose from. That would be discrimination and they are not allowed to do that. Relax and get all your ducks in a row.

There are some couple here have more than 30 years age difference and their visas were approved. Sometimes, you need to do cross check before believe the information.
