Hi everyone,

I need a co-sponsor for the affidavit of support, but the only co-sponsor I have does not reach the income/and possibly not the asset threshold. Will my income (and savings) be combined with my co-sponsors income?? Thank you in advance!

Only household members can combine incomes. Do you live with your co-sponsor?

My dad (co-sponsor) receives social security income for retirement.

Can this be used as income on the affidavit of support? If it cannot be used as income, is it considered an asset? I guess my main question is will this help our case financially considering he does not make enough from his small business to meet the guidelines? Thanks in advance!

Hi everyone,

I am the petitioner for my husband (the beneficiary) and am filling out the I 864 affidavit of support. My question is: On Part 5, subpart: 3, when counting household size it says enter 1 if married, but then I would be counting my husband twice, since he is the immigrant that I am sponsoring and I already entered 1 on the first line. Should I put 0 on line 3, even though I´m married?

Thank you in advance!

 That is EXACTLY what you do.

You do not count anyone twice, that is the number one rule. Your husband is already listed in number 1 as the person you are sponsoring.

Hi everyone,

I have a joint sponsor filling out the 1 864. He will be including his assets. There are 3 subsections: savings (1), net real estate holdings (2), and stocks, bonds and other assests not included on line 1 and 2 (3).

My question is: Does my joint sponsor have to put down his net real estate holdings (or is it optional)? (He would like to list his savings and stocks and bonds, but I do not think he would like to put his real estate, unless it is necessary).

In other words, since he is choosing to use assets, does he get to pick and choose which assets, or once you decide to use assets, are you obligated to list all types of assets?

Thank you in advance!
