how effective are SNORING remedies?

my husband snores...really loudly at times. he says he wasn't like that back in the philippines. could it be the dry cold air? he gets congested easily...so we keep the windows open (even when it's cold outside...LA cold i mean...)...he uses prescription nasal spray and sleeps on his side. unfortunately, i don't think they work. could a humidifier help?

sleeping with ear plugs...sleeping in another room...or not sleeping at all are not acceptable options. (they could however be last resorts.)

he may have allergies, I know when I first got here I couldn't breathe for nearly a year. I had to take night time anti-histimines and use a Breathe Right strip on my nose. My hubby said that helped a little bit.

But he's deaf in one ear so can sleep with that ear up.

Last week on Grey's Anatomy, Meredith had to get Derrek wax ear-plugs. They seemed to work for him.

Maybe a vaporizer in the room can get hot or cold mist or get tested he may need the breathing machine, raise the head of the bed.

Why are earplugs not an option? Once you get used to them you stop resenting your SO for snoring

Dunno how effective they are. He snores scary loud, and I grind my teeth so badly I've done damage. We kind of cancel each other out most of the time.

My hubby snores very badly too. He snores on his side, back or stomach I honestly think he may have sleep apena sp? I have gone to another room to sleep, but i am considering getting ear plugs.

My husband snores more now than he used to and we are pretty sure it's because he has gained about 25 pounds since we got married.

I spend at least one or two nights a week in the guest room because I can't sleep with him snoring, and I need my sleep. I try to make him roll over, but he only stops snoring for very short periods of time, and usually, I haven't fallen back to sleep yet.

sure glad to hear others have the same "problems" too. i don't want to wear ear plugs but i should try it before i knock it. allergies and gaining weight are possible factors. he's seeing a dr. next week for a check-up. we'll get to the bottom of this soon.

i hope we can resolve it somehow...or at least lessen the volume. it can get so loud even he wakes up!

Snoring (especially prolonged or very loud snoring) is usually indicative of medical problems (weight, allergies, or sleep apnea, for examples). I personally would get things checked out as soon as possible.

I would suggest the medical also, when i was married my x snored very bad. He did end up on the machine, it can be weight, many things and can also be the first signs of many things. In his case overweight, and enlarged heart leading to diebetes

The breathe right strips help sometimes also (depending on the cause of the snoring) but the cost adds up. I agree with the medical. Apnea can cause some serious longterm problems.

I believe its weight gain thats causing his snoring. It almost is always the culprit. Its taxing on the airways.

How does he know he never snored before? He may have but just didn't have anyone to hear it until now.

I snore wicked bad ever since I got pregnant ten years ago. My nasal passages changed with pregnancy and never returned back to normal. I had to go to two sleep studies at a hospital and I got fitted for a sleep mask because I have sleep apnea. It's a very serious condition if you have it bad enough and basically you stop breathing and throughout the night that takes a toll on your heart. My brother almost died from it but alhumdulilah at the hospital they figured out what was wrong with him and now he is healthy.

Ask him to tell the doctor if he can have a sleep study done. The mask will eliminate the snoring and you'll sleep well. You should get a mouthguard too so you don't grind your teeth. Between the sleep mask and the mouthguard we're talkin' one sexy couple! :energetic:

I showed my husband my mask and he was trying sooooooo hard not to laugh!!! I think it's gonna be the cause of some uncontrollable giggles some nights. lol

That's what I have been hearing at night. You know that we're a few cities away from each other. Can you please tell your hubby to keep it down. LOL! I don't know why this thread tickles the hell out of me (maybe because I snore sometimes). I'm glad that I'm not in the office because I was really laughing out loud.
