About as accurate as any self-reported information. As Girl from Celebes wrote, don't rely on it. Use it as a guide, but expect a large margin of error.

If it is in reference to the service center websites, I am skeptical. They say they are processing 5 months, for example, but the data says it hasn't been updated since Aug 31st.

This is the normal timeframe for data reporting. Sometime in early November it will update with info from September 30th. As a general rule, it's from the last day of the month preceding the last full calendar month, making it always between one to two months out of date. Add on the number of days since the reported date and you can estimate what they are working on.

Its unfortunate but it's better than nothing.

Before my case has an interview scheduled the "currently working on" day for my case was actually our priority date. Because the data was almost two months out of date, it was clear to me something was amiss. I called it in and they said they couldn't do anything until the displayed date was actually past my priority date.

It's annoying but it's better to have the timeframes as a rough estimate than not at all.
