20k is okay for 2 people. That's a studio apartment, food and public transportation.

Studios going at about $800 (at least in some places) plus bills for one person means barely scraping by on 29 grand much less for 2.

And what if someone happens to be switching jobs, but has HUGE earning potential? Who is the gubmint to make a fair and reasonable assessment of this? They're running a gargantuan deficit!!!

You can't take care of bills, transportation, food etc on hopes and dreams. Edited by aaydrian

Well they can do a one bedroom. $500 or $600. Not bad.

Too bad it wasn't 100,000 Dominican's. Those chicks are hot!

KRAMER: Jerry, I just picked up the Cubans at the bus station. (shrill)

What's going on!?

JERRY: What?

KRAMER: (animated) They're not real Cubans. They're Dominicans.

JERRY: So?

KRAMER: So, Jerry, if my investors don't get Cubans, the whole deal's off.

JERRY: What's the difference?

KRAMER: Jerry, once you've had real Cubans, there's just nothing else like

it.

JERRY: (confused) We're talking about people, right?

KRAMER: Yes, yes. The quality, the texture, the intoxicating aroma. These

guys don't have it.

JERRY: I thought they smelled pretty nice.

KRAMER: Jerry, your palate's unrefined.

I just rented a nice garage apt that sits at the end of my driveway. Upstairs and downstairs, bathroom kitchenette . 600 bucks a month. That includes Cable,Internet, electricity and Water. I think it's a good deal for all.

They would have to do that plus get by on vitamins, candles and Chinese telephones to not live paycheck to paycheck.

$20,000 is too low of an income requirement but considering that some folks need suckers to scam then that amount is peachy.

How far down south do you live? And is that pricey considering the state?

These low-income USCs still have enough money to take vacations overseas to meet their partners :dancing:

but no money to AOS later on.

I am curious what the immigrant spouses think about marrying USCs who could barely support them / family, or deadbeat USCs who expect the immigrants to support them instead.

Done with K1, AOS and ROC

I live in Mid- Georgia. No I don't think it's bad considering you get free internet, cable and utilities. Net effective rent 375.00-400.00 Of course it does not cost me anything extra for the cable and internet so it's a win for me

Some just want to get out of their home country; America is the land of free stuff and that's all that matters. The last bit goes for USCs too.

It kills me when ppeople in the NY area try to rent pi$$ painted public bathroom like apartments for $1000 (hardly anything included).

You can always claim to be an unemployed actor who's waiting tables, parking cars and due for a break. Your agent might call you at any moment with a three-picture deal worth at leat $20M.

Now, if that isn't huge earning potential, then nothing else is....

Exactly how does this "huge earning potential" theory work? Do you walk into the USCIS office for your interview and say "Hi Mr. Officer, I know I'm unemployed now and cannot afford to provide for myself or my perspective immigrant wife, but I'm working on something really big, I just need more time. For now I have a letter from my Mother stating we can shack up in her basement".

Higher earning potential doesn't even have to include actively working on something, it's the thought that counts.

I have a promising business idea proven to become bigger than Bill Gates or Fred Smith.

It just hasn't taken off yet. Guaranteed to make my immigrant wife rich.

Your lack of imagination speaks volumes.

Imagine a USC who's built up a good free-lance business overseas. He decides to move back to the US 'with' his family (I 'quote' "with" because as we all know "moving with" is impossible in the eyes of USCIS). He comes back to the US, has contacts, good references, a load of earning potential, but the forms ask him to list his current income, which is probably around zero. Showing a lack of imagination, understanding and foresight (much like yourself), said petitioner is denied his applications because of his current income. This, despite the fact that his prospects are great, and he'll almost certainly have built his business back up to its former level within 2-3 years.

By all means though: continue with the yee-haw and backslapping. <_<
