Isis and the "Powers in Control"

I am sick about the way things are going....as regarding the USA. How could the USA just sit back and let another city fall to ISIS on the Turkish border. You would think this current administration would be so embarrassed and humiliated, unless it was actually what they wanted to happen. We have the power to destroy ISIS, why dont we use it!?

I am just one frustrated American right now. We all are threatened, and we allow one , corrupt American to decide the fate of the entire world and put us all at risk.

I have dear friends who are Sunni Iraqis. They are my family...not by blood but by heart and soul. And they are the enemy of ISIS. I am a Christian. I was in the Persian Gulf War. And these Sunnis I proudly call my family. And not just MY family, but my family's family. And we all are appalled at what the USA is doing (or not doing).

I am a former soldier, and if I have the opportunity as a modern day minuteman, I will fight these turds without any approval of disapproval from this fractured government.

Give me just one ISIS in my hands, and his head is off.

I don't know if you see it, but these two statements don't go together. If we as Americans are saying how horrible it is to behead someone, why is it ok when we talk about doing it to someone else?

So the title was edited, posts removed but the reference to wanting to cut someone's head off is left?

Perhaps this isn't a great topic to be allowed to continue seeing as it is full of emotional invective. There are better, ways of starting a thread like this that don't involve using such sensationalist language.

Too true. I also think that this sort of thing always relies on the assumption that the USA has a moral imperative to intervene and that doing so will actually improve the situation. I think that's a very simplistic way to look at the issue - since we don't have to look very far to see the role the USA played in creating the conditions that have allowed ISIS to flourish.

Between 9,000 and 16,000 Kurdish fighters are currently trying to defend the city of Kobane (Kobani) in Syria from ISIS.

The administration is willing to watch 10,000 “moderate” Kurkish Syrian fighters die, in order to train 5,000 “moderate” Syrians’ to take their place.

We will train fighters, the “Syrian moderates”, to be the ground forces to fight. The kenyan has set a goal of training and equipping 5,000 of these Syrian fighters within the next year and congress has appropriated $500 million.

In letters addressed to the Democratic and Republican leaders in the House of Representatives, the Syrian Speaker of Parliament calls on the United States to refrain from arming and training so-called moderate Syrian rebels and from entering into a coalition with countries whose religious ideologies, the Speaker says, has fueled the growth of ISIS. Speaker Jihad al-Lahham also writes that one of the two American journalists beheaded by ISIS was sold to the militant group by the moderate forces.

"What is called moderate opposition sold to ISIL the innocent, beheaded U.S. journalist," Lahham writes to House Speaker John Boehner and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, using an alternative acronym for ISIS. "There is nothing to prevent those groups from selling the U.S. weapons to ISIL as it is their proven common practice."

Lahham doesn't name the journalist, but it's the same accusation made by a spokesman for the family of Steven Sotloff, whose execution video was posted online by ISIS earlier this month.

In his letters to the U.S. Congress, Speaker Lahham argues that there is no such thing as moderate rebels and arming and training those selected groups "is a nonreversible action that will trigger a global negative chain reaction."

I think we all share your outrage at what ISIS represents, their philosophy and methods. I don't believe anyone will dispute that.

However, I also believe we, as a nation, must exercise caution and take this fight with planned actions rather than be guided by an emotional reaction. All you need do is remind yourself than only a few months ago, many of us were here demanding that this administration armed and supported the Syrian rebels - many of which turned out to become part of ISIS.

You were over that part of the world yourself so you are in a better position to understand and appreciate that not everything is what it appears to be when it comes to politics in the ME.

If the US were to act precipitously and without the support of other consequential nations, we would run the risk of finding ourselves in an imbroglio far more dangerous than the situation at hand. ISIS is acting in a planned and calculated manner and so should the coalition that has been tasked to destroy them.

I wish your family over there stays safe and out of harm's way.
