You would only file an I-485 if you were in the US already and intending to adjust status.

If your wife is a US citizen then your priority date is immaterial. Follow the guide: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?autocom=custom&page=i130guide2 but substitute a copy of your I-130 approval notice for the I-130 and its supporting documents.

You could have done it concurrently but it is also OK to do the two-step process. You can file the I-485 and since your I-130 is approved it should not take long for it to be processed. That guide 2 Hypnos posted is very helpful. You just have to pay $1070 (this include biometrics, if you have not done it yet).

08/20/2014 Application (I-130/I-485 concurrent filing) received at Chicago lockbox

09/04/2014 NOA (text and email) at 12:40 AM

09/05/2014 USCIS case status activated

I-485 is forwarded to Nebraska Service Center (dated 09/02/2014 for the fingerprint fee): Acceptance Status

I-130, I-131 and I-765 are all dated 08/20/2014 (all are at Initial Review)

09/08/2014 NOA hard copies received

09/12/2014 Biometrics appointment letters, scheduled on 09/24/204

09/24/2014 Biometrics done :)

11/08/2014 EAD in production (called USCIS 11/05/2014 and they put in a service request for me)

11/14/2014 Ready to be scheduled for interview! Hooray! :)

11/18/2014 Got my EAD/AP in the mail. ;)

12/06/2017 Received notice for interview (Jan 8) :D

01/08/2015 Interview, verbal approval

01/12/2015 New Card in Production!

01/17/2015 GC received!!! but not done yet, my name is "incorrect," I have not changed my last name yet and they change it in the card. The EAD and AP are correct though.

I looked up my case on the USCIS site and it was approved yesterday. I didnt get around to filing the i-485 yet. Will that be a problem? I know I could have sent them in at the same time. What should I expect when the acceptance letter comes?

You just filing the I-130 gets you no where since you are in US. They will assume you are in your country. After USCIS your petition will be sent to NVC and more processing then and interview setup if you do not file the I-485. That is the form that adjust your status and with approval gets you a green card and with the I-765 you get green card.

So you need to get your I-1485 filed be sure to attach a copy of your NOA1 letter to it so they know you are a immigrant wanting to adjust status and you are living here.

for 'what to expect' really depends on the content of the approval notice.

USUALLY, the content of the approval notice hinges around what was filled in on Q22, left and right sides, of form I-130.
