I saw a recommendation to wait two weeks before applying for my fiance's SSN so that she will be in the system. I am wondering after applying how long does it typically take to receive the SSN.

Thanks all.

I just went thru exactly what you are asking. After waiting 2 1/2 weeks from arriving, se applied at the local office. She received her card 1 week later.

I assume all offices may vary depending on how busy they are, but the letter they gave her when she applied stated that she would receive her card within 2 weeks. If she didn't recieve the card after 2 weeks, then to contact the office.

Same thing happened to us only we weren't given an SSN, just a denial letter (and the WRONG denial letter at that)... TWICE! And we had to wait for his GREENCARD to apply for SSN. Yeah, some people. At least know the laws and regulations that come into play of your own job.

oh and as far as the physical card....6 days and waiting, we're hoping for it today but it could be as late as a week from now.

My experience has been very bad. I applied after waiting 2 weeks from getting married BUT I should have applied in my maiden name. They could not match me up to the homeland security because I had not sent in my AOS. I called and called and they finally DENIED me because they could not match me up even though I had documents with my new married name from homeland security. By then my I-98 had expired and I could not apply again until I got my EAD.

So..... I had an RFE and waited and waited..... now I've applied Nov 25, 2009 and still have not gotten it (Dec 15th). I got married July 4th 2009!!!! I can't get my drivers license until this is done. I have my green card now so will go in and check out the status and try to push them. Not sure what the delay is?

Hope you get good luck like the others I read about. Everything else has been wonderful, like no interview!!!! :)
