Hi,

My wife case was in administrative processing. Its been almost 2 months now. Yesterday (june 15th,2014) we checked it and saw that our case status had been updated. What does that mean? Are we close or they do it at times? This is very frustrating.

No it just means updated as in someone touched it looked at it may have put information on your file.

Doesn't necessarily mean they are close. It's a waiting game sorry.

If you had recently made contact via phone or email it will get "updated" but if not then it could be a good sign.

My VJ friends and I have noted "close to visa being issued" trends like:

Creation Date Changing from the Original Date to a more current/recent (Same Day) date

Visa changing from Immigrant Visa type to Nonimmigrant Visa type (In the Header)

Status changes like - Ready > AP > Ready > AP > Issued

A thread discussing it:

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/503367-why-did-the-case-say-issued-instead-ready-again/#entry7099433

Example CEAC Changes from real cases.

07-07-2014: Status changed to READY!!

07-08-2014: Date changed status still "ready"

07-08-2014: Creation and status dates both changed. Also, changed from "Immigrant Visa" to "NonImmigrant Visa" status changed to AP

07-09-2014: Date changed status still "AP"

07-16-2014: Visa Issued

Another Example

Interview: 9/5/13 *Approved

CEAC Status 9/6/13: Visa Status changed from 'IV Ready' to 'NIV Ready'

CEAC Status 9/10/13: Visa Status changed to Administrative Processing

CEAC Status 9/12/13: Visa Status changed to Issued

VISA in Hand!!!: 9/17/13

POE: 9/26/13

(IMO it's better to save your money for visits to or from your Fiancé and just fill it out yourself using the K-1 Guide on VJ and Senior Members... They Rock!!!)

In my case my interview was on march 18, 2014. All was good , no missing papers or information, they took my passport and they havit still. I paid the delivery service for passport. No 221g wasnt given.

On march 24 I was put in ap, until I know without reason.

Never I havent been arrested or I havent had justice problem. Next 24 it will be 4 months on ap, and they dont say nothing at the consulate why.

All we can do is wait.

If you had recently made contact via phone or email it will get "updated" but if not then it could be a good sign.

Wow!! This information was really, really, really helpful! Thank you for posting this!!! I didn't know about the IV to NIV change! Right now, I am checking both each time.

how long does administrative processing normally takes?

AP is a bad 'word' for a reason - no normal time. If you or your petitioner/sponsor is a USC, you/they might be able to contact the local Senator or House Representative if the wait is long (maybe over 4-6 months, is my guess of how long "long" is).

Signature coming soon...
