Questions regarding K-1 Fiance(e) Visas

Hello,

I am a 26 y/o male from Texas. My fiancee - an Icelandic citizen - is 17, turning 18 next May.
I was just wondering if any of you could answer the following questions for me:

- Can I send in the petition few months before her birthday, without having written parental consent, if we don't intend to get married until after she turns 18? I've heard that the processing time for a K-1 Visa is at least 8 months, so if I were to send it in next January, she would obviously turn 18 even by the time of the final interview. (You're legally able to marry at 14, with parental consent, in TX)

- Either way: How long, approximately, should it total processing time be?

1) You both have to be "free to marry" AT THE TIME OF THE PETITION. So, in your case, the petition can't be dated before her birthday, unless you go into the whole thing of parental consent, having that notarized and legalized for use within the U.S., etc etc. Better is to just wait.

2) Total processing time is unknown, but anywhere between 3 and 14 months at the moment.

Oh I just saw your comment about the legal age being 14 in TX (yikes!) .... well, in that case, you could indeed get her parents to write the consent letter, have it translated into English, notarized, and, then, legalized for use in the U.S. Dunno what the procedure for that is, really, maybe the translated and notarized letters are enough..

Trust me, if you can just wait until she turned 18 you will be worry free. Some petitions have been approved in 30 days( don't know if it is still possible because of the illegal immigrants crisis at border).
