I checked the 10-day forecast for NYC and so far no snow...

I'm just hoping we aren't going to have a 24 inch snowstorm like last year...

If I could get snowed in with my sweetie that would be one thing, but alone it's no fun... :P

The plot thickens ... will the snow cover do the same?

Tuesday, January 16, 2007

The cold weather bandwagon is rolling, there is no holding it back, the weather pattern has changed...

[...]

...the coldest air mass of the winter so far is invading New England and the rest of the northeastern states now. So, is it gonna snow??? Well, the answer, in most places where it just hasn't snowed much yet this winter, is still NO.

There are a couple of storms out there that are potential candidates to bring some snow. The first one will form along the North Carolina coast Thursday and move northeastward up the coast on Friday. To me it looks mostly like a cold rain in the eastern Carolinas, but there may be some spots between Charlotte and Raleigh and Rocky Mount that gets some form of frozen precipitation for a short time Thursday morning. If some place is going to get a few inches of snow, it's probably eastern Long Island and southeastern New England. If the storm really cranks up ... maybe coastal New Jersey and New York City could have a period of snow late Thursday night or Friday morning. If that does materialize it won't snow a whole lot, but hey ... there has been no accumulating snow at all in that area this winter, and this at least is the first chance in a long time.

The second storm is going to be similar to the last several which have come out of the southern Plains and headed up toward the Ohio Valley and Great Lakes. The difference is this one will have colder air ahead of it and behind it, and it's likely to take a track somewhat farther to the east. Does this mean another ice or snow storm for Oklahoma, eastern Kansas and Missouri??? I hesitate to say so ... but maybe. The timing on it in those places appears to be Saturday night into Sunday. There may be a messy mixture into the Ohio and Tennessee valleys Sunday with mostly rain through Georgia and the Carolinas. And then it's up the East Coast. After a very cold weekend from Washington to Boston, the cold air will be retreating early next week, but whether that means rain or snow or some combination thereof, I'm not sure yet. Just inland, perhaps from Charlottesville into central Pennsylvania and then the Hudson Valley the odds would appear to favor snow over rain. Here in Happy Valley ... otherwise known as State College, Pa., there has been virtually no snow cover all winter, and the latest date for an inch of snow is about January 20. Monday would be the twenty-second and since it sure doesn't look like it's going to snow to accumulate before then, it looks like we may have a new record to put in the books.

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

Winter here in southern TX as well. Rain and temperatures around freezing make for slippery roads... the trees and bushes in our yard look gorgeous though, with their icy pearls

We had about 6 inches or something like that from Sunday night into Monday....I couldn't believe there was barely any on the ground before that. *Highly unusual* for this time of year in WI...sometimes we get flurries end of Oct, and we usually always have snow by the end of Nov. or early December. We had a couple inches around Christmas, :) but not much up until this point. I was off school for a month until this week....I wish the big storms would have come then! M.

My in-laws are in Texas, because they wanted to go somewhere warm for the winter. They're not very pleased right now.

Next year they'll stay in California/Arizona or head to Florida.

I sure wish that Jet Stream map swung down to us in FL. It's 77 here today and I don't think we've had 2 weeks worth of weather below 60 degrees this Winter. I know it's not going to garner any sympathy from those going through a brutal Winter season but keep in mind we go through 8-9 months of miserable heat down here. I used to live in Cleveland, Ohio and I remember those Winters. I don't miss the cold or the snow but I do miss the seasons. Florida has 6 weeks of Spring, 9 months of Summer, and 6 weeks of Fall. :P

Amen!

I'm about an hour north of you up 19.
