Eric Cantor Loses Primary to Tea Party Challenger In Huge Upset

In an enormous political upset, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor lost his Republican primary in Virginia’s seventh congressional district Tuesday night to Dave Brat, an economics and ethics professor at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Virginia, and political unknown.

According to the Associated Press, with 86.1 percent of precincts reporting Brat won with 55.8 percent of the vote to Cantor's 44.2 percent. Cantor became the first person in American history to lose his party's primary while holding the position of House majority leader, according to Roll Call, the Capitol Hill newspaper.

Brat’s bid was widely seen as a long-shot, improbable campaign to unseat the possible heir to Speaker John Boehner. Cantor has long been seen as the member of Republican leadership friendliest to the tea party, but it’s likely his portrayal as being open to immigration reform is what hurt him in this campaign.

So much for amnesty this year. And with Obama promoting his fake deportation numbers to make himself seem tough on illegal immigration (he's not) the pro-amnesty people are pissed off at the Dems and might stay home too. Can't wait to see the Dems get their clocks cleaned in November.

If the preznit doesn't get his way on this, he'll just use his "pen & phone" and give all the border agents a furlough so the future Democrats (aka: illegals) can rush in, sorta like they're already doing.

Whats so bad is we are screwed in Washington. Boehner is gonna cave. I don't have a problem with a path to residency for illegals in this country a long time, but the flow has to stop before we start.

My fellow liberals and Democrats are celebrating this, but I see no reason to. This is evidence that the GOP grassroots remains engaged and remains strong. That does not augur well for the midterms.

I don't believe anyone should celebrate just yet. We all would need to count the votes first. In any case, I don't see how the GOP can celebrate either, as it ruptures and it taken hostage by the Teaparty Bullies... The midterms will be nothing if not interesting. I can promise you however that despite of the results, nothing will change much anytime soon. All you need do is look at our history and realize we have any number of possible permutations of R/D in the house, senate and WH and yet here we are.

I feel sorry for the TBs though, but that is another story...
