Sunday Roast in a decent pub

Neither available in the US.

I like yorkies...."Don't Feed The Birds"! Haa

I am so shocked they are allowed to have that slogan still....with the PC that goes on in England!!

OHHH and the bread...yum...and cheese. RedLeicester YUmmo.

Can't do the mushy peas....and I am not a big Bacon fan. It is really to salty for me.

mmm...food. Thinking of more

Is there something that you take over to England to cook that your inlaws/family like you to do??

When I was there, the slogan was 'it's not for girls' with a girl and a circle and line thru her.

Fcukin yorkies! hahahahahha

oh, and as far as cooking....Lisa don't cook  and I'm sure my in-laws don't want me to either

okay I'll answer first. My inlaws love me to make a mexican meal for them. Taught them (amandas version*thats me*) of quesadillas, and fajitas, and tacos...guacamole...homemade salsa...They love it.

Last time I bought fresh tuna steaks, did garlic/basil mashed potatos , and asparagus(I know it is spelled wrong) and they loved it too.

I love to cook. But man I get nervous making things perfect for Chris fam! :)

Those are quite nice :) Do they not have them here?

I ate a bit of a Yorkie once then I realized it was a Yorkie so I haven't eaten one since. D laughs when I take the huff over the sexist effing candy bar. It was good, mind you, but as you said before, it boggles the mind how that slogan is tolerated...lol, the litigious society we are here in America...Nestle woulda been sued ages ago.

Oh, but my fave choccie bar there is a Toffee Crisp....went and got one at the World Mkt and it was about $1.30!

-Really nice veggie burgers, black bean burgers too...they do have them here, but they're garbage in comparison.

-Garlic rice

-falafel(I probably botched the spelling)

-the beer

It's just in general much easier to eat vegetarian "real" food there...I go out to eat here and the only things on the menu are salad or a veggie burger, more often than not that 'veggie burger' is a soy thing with one slice of water chestnut and a shred of carrot.

I've never cooked for my future inlaws, nor would I most likely..they're all cooks and I'm a bit intimidated. SO loves my lasagna, fried rice, and tuna concotion.

Surprisingly (for a desi) Vegetable Stroganoff (a lot of restaurants in UK actually have it on the menu--in the US, the word "Stroganoff" is ALMOST ALWAYS associated with "beef").

This thread is making me hungry, or should I say peckish ;)

I spent 3 months in the UK (Bletchley) 12 years ago and took quite a fancy to the food, especially the Indian food(Balti houses rule!), real fish and chips like I had in Newcastle(none of that frozen cr@p), and the sweets, oh God the sweets... Jammie Dodgers, Jaffa cakes, Cadbury flake bars, mince pies(I was there at Christmas), homemade trifle...

I'm not a huge fan of the Sunday roast dinner, though...

I gained 12 pounds in 3 months, go figure...

I usually make sausage rolls for my relatives now. :) They love them. Especially my husband, his sister and his brother-in-law. I use the recipe from this thread: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...l=sausage+rolls

Thanks for the recipe, Sukie. :)

Try Reed's ginger beer - it's available at Whole Foods. It has little pieces of ginger in it. Its great, especially when you are sick to your stomach, I find.

The classic bacon sandwich, Im told Irish bacon in America is similar

Scottish or English fry up breakfast, easily made at home

Fish and Chips, still on the look out for a good one in our part of Virginia

Sunday roast dinner, including yorkshire puddings, also easily made at home

Indian Food, I've seen indian resturants in the US, just not so many

Fray Bentos pies, I hope to find some of those over there soon

Drinks wise, I like jack and coke anyway
