I wrote an email to my Senator last week. I didn't hear back and had kind of written it off as oh well. But today, I got a call from a lovely lady at the Senator's office who tells me that they contacted USCIS Texas Service Center on my behalf. They spoke to someone who said the processing time is listed at 5 months but that they "are currently getting them processed around 3 months." Now this I find a little hard to believe seeing as how many people still are waiting from Dec onward, but that is what they told her. USCIS also emailed the senator which stated:

"Good afternoon Heather,

I’m sorry for your constituent frustration. Your constituents’ I129F case(#) and I've sent your constituent's concerns to the i129 Supervisor and your constiteunt should receive notification of the status of his case within thirty days. USCIS is committed to adjudicating immigration benefits in the order received and in a timely and efficient manner. We regret any inconvenience that results from delays in processing."

She told me that if I do not hear anything in the next 30 days to contact them again to have them assist.

I am hopeful.

I wrote to them via their website and my letter was explaining the discrepancy between the 2 service centers. I did not act as though it is just me being affected, but explained using data, the difference in how long it is taking for an NOA2 approval. I did mention the emotional toll it is taking on my family of course, but I (humbly) think I wrote a well-versed, educated response to the current situation.

I live in Tennessee and my Senator is involved in pro-immigration reform so that may have aided in them responding to my letter.

As far as my opinion on it not being 5 months, I did not present my case as if I was complaining about MY OWN wait, but the fact that as a whole, those of us at TSC are way behind those at CSC.

I guess I feel like there is really no harm in contacting your representatives bc that is what they are there for. If it helps speed things up, all the better, but I feel this whole system needs to be overhauled.

If CSC can approve people in 2 weeks, why does it take 5 months or more for TSC?

Beth

Well done !! Thanks a lot for sharing your experience. Let me see if I can draft this email tonight and do the same.

thanks! It honestly has improved my mood just feeling like I might have made someone aware of how things currently are. Until I started this K1 process, I had NO idea about any of this. So, I doubt the general public does either. Those of us who are going about this legally and honestly need to share our experiences, both good and bad, and maybe help those still waiting or those who will be going through this in the future. Without sounding dramatic, this has been one of the most stressful things I have done. I needed to do something. But to each their own. :) Best of luck.

I live in New Mexico. Immigration is an issue that all our politicians want to get involved in. Maybe I can contact my senator as well. Granted, I'm only 3 months in, but the wait is so painful. I can't even imagine how people are feeling who have been waiting even longer!!

And I agree, it's important to share our stories, good or bad, especially with our law makers. My opinion of our immigration system has DRASTICALLY changed since going through this process. I had no idea it was this difficult to come here legally. Our system is deeply flawed and needs a complete overhaul! It should be easier to come here legally!!

Strange... I actually contacted my Congressman this week. I sent over our information and they are going to inquire about our status. Hopefully we get some good news. Best of luck! Way to use your noggin.

Good point! And good on your for speaking up about it. I didn't have a single clue how hard this whole process was until I started going through it. When I try to explain it to people, they can't believe it and seem to be confused by the entire thing! I think spreading the word to people who can really make a difference is important. Thank you and good luck!! :)

Can I just say how much I love that you did this? I would contact my senator and representatives but I happen to live in a state where my representatives senators and governor do not serve my particular interests when it comes to my particular relationship situation. It makes me a little afraid if and when my process becomes longer than 5 months. I'll be going on a 2 month wait so it's too early to ask for expedite and I would never dream of doing that. I suppose I could write them based on the general situation at TSC, but when it comes to my particular case I am particularly powerless. When the visa is approved we plan on moving to another state that will improve our situation all around and especially for the purposes of marriage. Than you for writing this and using that ability when I don't really have the ability to, and making them aware of the situation in general. Maybe their influence can get things moving a bit better at TSC. Thank you again, so much! :)

A journey of 2855KM begins with a single step.
