I understand this is a topic discussed like mad.

However, I'm contemplating jumping quickly into the process but instinct tells me I need to wait and get grounded.

First I'll explain my current situation.

I have no recent income or tax documents because I have been in England with my fiance for the past 6 months, and prior to this time I was a full time student living with my father. When I return to America (tomorrow :'[) I will be moving back in with my father (it's just him and me). My father earns enough money to support three people (according to the K1 standards). I still plan to obtain a full time job once back home, either way... but... I'm not sure when I should apply.

What route do you recommend?

I could...

1) First secure a job once back in the states, one that will support the two of us. If I take this route, how long should I work at my new job before applying? How do I address the fact that I do not have any recent tax documents to show? How much of an issue will this be?

2) Apply before I have my own income, using my father as the main sponsor for my fiance. As I've said, he earns well above the requirement for 3 people. Truth is, after living together for 6 months, this is going to be the most difficult goodbye yet--the hardest thing I will ever have to do is walk away from him in the airport tomorrow. So if we could get the ball rolling as soon as possible that would be great - however I have the feeling that applying before I have secured a job will be a bit tricky - especially because I have no income to show for 2013.

*****

So really what I'm asking is.. when should I apply?

If you recommend waiting until after I have my own income, how long after should I apply?

If you think it's not completely ridiculous plunging straight in with my father as a sponsor, any tips?

Or should I combine the two - secure a job first but also have my dad cosign - would that be best?

Thank you so much for reading this and I truly, deeply appreciate any answers.

The financials come later, at the K-1 visa interview. For London, they want to see a sponsor, so you would only need to supply your father's I-134 and supporting financial documents http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/453579-k-1-joint-financial-sponsor-us-embassy-london/?p=6501637.

You can file the I-129F petition while abroad. You do not need to return to the US first. http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1guide

You can easily explain why you don't have prior tax returns, and with a strong co-sponsor, I think you're fine to go ahead and start now. Use the opportunity, while you're still together, to have your fiance sign all the paperwork that require his original signature so you can take that back with you to the US. Use the waiting time for the NOA2 to find a job and settle down.

Good luck!
