husband volunteered to fill up my DS260 last march 5 as i was too busy that day. only for me to find out TODAY! he had several mistakes headbonk.gif

1. didn't put my middle name (should be in the same line with given name right?) like ( sofia SMITH)

2. ticked "no" in the other names used (he forgot about my maiden name) his alibi : thought its only for aliases..

my oh my!!!crying.gif

do NVC issues checklist for this mistakes? ill be calling up early tomorrow, and hope this wont cause us anymore delays.

*just finish filling up my daughter DS260

Totally freaked out . Went to Passport seva Kendra to get PCC before checklist ,officer told me you can't have it right now as you have to re issue your passport to amend your wife''s name on it. I dint know this before nor my agent told me. I m in the middle of NVC process paid AOS bill waiting for IV to pay but now so pissed off . Have to apply for new passport whole procedure gonna 1 n half month. Can't believe my agent dint informed me whole things gonna delay case for a mnth

U need not to worry that much. I did face the same situation.

I visited PSK to get PCC at the time when even NOA2 was not approved. They asked me to get my passport reissued for amend my wife's name on the same. So i had to take another new appointment for reissue of passport. Luckily the officer was good enough that he didn't put my case for the police verification (as it was just amendment of wife's name) and i got my new passport in just 5 days (can you beat it :)). May be u need not to wait for 1 n half months. Just ask the officer to clear your police verification. OR you can apply under TATKAL.

To add to it, while applying for reissue of passport, u need to carry marriage certificate and then ID proof of your wife. Idiotic PSK guys asked me my USC wife's Indian ID proof and when i told them that she is USC, how could she have a Indian ID then they asked me to to give a photocopy of joint bank account (which we again don't have). But i insist on this and finally they agreed to accept my documents.

I am still not issued a case # from NVC and waiting for it. And now i again need to apply for PCC for new passport.

Once you are done with the stuff, just let me know one thing, :)

1. What happened to your earlier appointment for PCC. Your paid fee is still applicable. But you filed that application for old passport. What about new passport, will you again pay new fee for this OR you will just make a appointment over the old application.

Just get this question cleared from PSK guys when you will visit them again for reissue of passport. Because i had called toll free number of passport seva many a times to get this thing clear from the operators. But they don't know anything about this and they always say that PSk guys decision will be the last.

2. Suppose you are exempted from a police verification for the new passport as i said earlier. Ask the PSK officer that you need PCC over new passport, so will it require a police verification then?? As otherwise, they will issue you a PCC on the same day in a couple of hours.

I need to visit PSK later this month to get my PCC over new passport. Am just keeping fingers crossed that they should issue me the same on the same day and should not put it for police verification (which they can as while issuing passport police verification was not done).

Sorry to hear about your situation.

Glad you took control of what the lawyer was messing up.

Not sure if firing him was all that necessary.

I have a feeling that your spouse may or may not have filed for a divorce after you left the country.

You need some legal advice to be able to decide whether or not you should procure a divorce decree via tools like vitalCheck etc

I dont know what the NVC expects with VAWA (and you have to anticipate what the embassy expects as well).

Maybe reach out to another attorney for a one time consultation and get THESE TWO things sorted out.

My guess is that you'll need some sort of documentation to prove your separation in both places.

My friend I was served with the divorce summons by her friend. I went for my first hearing she was not present and on the 2nd hearing I was in the hospital for 14 days. I did mention about the inability and sent the original and a copy of the divorce to a NVC. California doesn't provide online divorce decree. I checked with vital check before also.

Sent you a private message about this as well, but my husband basically stood there and convinced the officer that getting the new passport would take much longer than the visa process and that it had to be completed in a specific time. The officer told him to come back the next day with our original marriage certificate.

He did not need to re-schedule or pay the appointment fees again...just brought the same receipt.

One thing you could argue is that the expiration dates for your current passport have already been entered into the system for the visa and you cannot make any changes...getting a new passport would mean information would not match and cause problems.

Come on, if there is one thing I've learned while living in India for a year, its that you can talk your way out of anything. :-)

And we've run into plenty of government types in the process of trying to get my own Indian visa extension.

Stay calm and work through it.

Just ready your post and now i am concerned about the stuff that you have mentioned.

I got my passpost reissued now and obviously the passport number, issue and expiry dates are different . Do i need to call NVC or USCIS and ask them to update this.

The very first thing, while filing a i130 petition, was all this information(my passport details) required/given to USCIS?

Well, I can't say for 100% sure there's no negative bearing; you'd be surprised what some COs come up with. But like I said, going through UK isn't like going through Nigeria or some other MENA country.

If you want, wait until NVC has accepted the AOS package, then start the amendment process.

We did think about waiting until after case complete but the chances are we would not have the new amended return in time for the interview as they can take up to 8 weeks to receive.

Do you think it might be a good idea to call NVC, explain the situation to them and ask them if they can postpone the case complete so we can submit a new 2013 tax return? I know this will delay our case by 2 months but I would much rather that than encounter any problems at the interview.

Cheers Saylin, you really are a great help in all of this.

Hello All!

I've been a bit absent lately...just waiting waiting waiting. I'm wondering if anyone is in a similar situation with me...We were approved (NOA2) on January 6th, and NVC finally received our package a few weeks after that...but I call about once a week and they just say I have to keep on waiting for it to get entered into the system and for them to send us a notice. I can't even figure out if I have my email on file so I can get it electronically instead of sent through USPS.

This is really ridiculous that now we've reached 2 months since being approved. Anyone else experiencing terribly long wait times?!

The up-side is that if this keeps getting dragged out, by the time my husband is issued his visa and is able to enter the US, we would have been married for over 2 years and he'll get the 10 year permanent resident visa instead of the conditional PR card.

Eh. At least the weather is getting nicer, waiting through the winter was awful.

bkghosh, eveandsal, Changnoi..

y'all get yer caseNumber yet ??

I called a few days ago and they changed the estimate to 30 business days!!

It appears that expectations have to be downgraded.

Some January people got case # in 15 calendar days.

Now it appears we are on 45 calendar days.....triple the time.

I am calling every 3 days....sometimes I get a nice person who is helpful.

Thanks for directing me to the error messages on the first page!

Another question to clarify. I sent the OPTIN email for EP. Do I need to receive a confirmation from NVC about that?

I got a generic automatic reply but nothing confirming my enrollment into EP. Is that fine?

And we've run into plenty of government types in the process of trying to get my own Indian visa extension.

Stay calm and work through it.

Bless your heart.

We're non resident Indians who live in a tiny South-east asian country and EVEN US... we cant stay calm through these "government types" that you are alluding to.
