Yup.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

My then fiance had to provide me with a copy of his divorce decree for my interview at the London Embassy. The US website certainly says that you should - http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/types/types_2994.html#6 My then fiance had been married twice before, so we had to get the divorce decree from his 1st marriage which took place over 40 years ago! Seems daft.

You should always be able to provide originals of all documents submitted to USCIS. This includes bringing a certified copy of your divorce decree to the embassy interview.

Thank you for the replies! Her instructions stated to bring a copy, but it seemed as if they only wanted hers.

What about my original marriage license? They are requesting hers

I'm curious about that too. She has a copy with the I-129F package, but I'm going to send off a certified copy to be on the safe side. The Greek embassy is also requesting the marriage certificate too. She emailed them to see if they need mine as well.

This is what they're requesting

8. MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE: If you were married previously, obtain one certified copy of your marriage certificate(s) from the place where the marriage took place.
Proof of the termination of any previous marriage must also be submitted (e.g. death certificate of spouse; final decree of divorce or annulment).

a marriage cert on a prior marriage? I read about that sometimes, and think it's totally whack.

But if that's what the IV Unit is asking for, ya gotta provide it.

I (Anna) sent an e-mail to the Embassy, asking if they also need to see any certified copies of my fiance's marriage certificate or divorse decree and their answer was:

In regards to your email inquiry we would like to inform you that the visa instructions that our office sent applies to you not to your fiancé.

It looks like they only want her marriage certificate, which she already has. Yeah Darnell, it is whack! If you have a copy of your divorce, obviously you were once married!

Marriage Certificates

Who needs to submit marriage certificates?

If you are married, you must obtain an original marriage certificate, or a certified copy, bearing the appropriate seal or stamp of the issuing authority.

Note: Marriage certificates from certain countries are unavailable. More specific information is available from NVC, the nearest United States immigrant visa processing post, or online at: http://travel.state.gov/visa/frvi/reciprocity/reciprocity_3272.html

from the goverments website, here it says it's if you ARE married, not were, and if you were, you need proof of a termination of the marriage
