There's hope after all.

Delta Air Lines CEO: No cell phone for you!

If you’re worried that some day you might be wedged into the middle seat in coach flanked by chatty cellphone users, then you might want to start thinking about using Delta Air Lines Inc. DAL +0.52% .

On Wednesday, Delta released a memo from CEO Richard Anderson to employees stating that the airline will not allow cell phone calls during its flights even if federal regulators lift a ban on them. Anderson said:

Our customer research and direct feedback tell us that our frequent flyers believe voice calls in the cabin would be a disruption to the travel experience. In fact, a clear majority of customers who responded to a 2012 survey said they felt the ability to make voice calls onboard would detract from – not enhance – their experience. Delta employees, particularly our in-flight crews, have told us definitively that they are not in favor of voice calls onboard.

Recently, the Federal Communications Commission proposed lifting the in-flight phone call ban, and later voted 3-to-2 to begin reviewing lifting the ban on in-flight calls, but now the Department of Transportation is considering a ban.

In November, MarketWatch polled readers and more than 80% who responded thought allowing voice calls on airplanes was a bad idea.

Then again, if the ban on cell phone calls is lifted and you find yourself on a flight with a seat mate who’s talking loudly into their phone, you can always take inspiration from this guy:

This is good news. The last thing I want is to be stuck in a tube next to some chatterbox. The youtube clip at the end is hysterical.

Yeah it is
