Card mailed but didn't arrive, says 'Notice Left'

Hi,

My green card was sent to me on December 5th. I called and got the tracking number for it.

On the USPS site today was the estimated delivery day (was sent with 2-day mail) and it said it was 'Out for Delivery' since 10.00 AM today. Well it wasn't with the mail that was delivered today.

Just now the tracking has been updated with 'Notice Left', saying

"We attempted to deliver your item at 5:05 pm on December 7, 2013 in FAIRFAX, VA 22030 and a notice was left."

Well first of all I don't think green cards are sent by 'certified' mail, or any other type of mail that requires authorization/signature. It just goes in the mail box, doesn't it?

Second, I was here all day. Nobody came to 'deliver' me anything.

Third, there is no notice left anywhere.

So what is this? I really can't understand how this could have happened. Anyone has any ideas?

Contact the post office. GCs do require signature now, so it sounds like the carrier didn't leave the notice.

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

Well they used to just be mailed but now they are tracked and I think require sig. This is fairly new.

Either way, your carrier messed up. Sometimes this happens. Someone is new, and being lazy or something, and doesn't try hard or even try to make deliveries. Your issue is with your local post office. Contact them, find package, file complaint.

I know tracking is new but I've never heard of GCs requiring signatures. Might be the case, though, maybe they finally listened to some complaints.

Funny that USPS messed up AGAIN. Couple of months ago my EAD was mailed to me. It never arrived, never showed up anywhere, I still can't work because of this and we are under great financial strain. Just because USPS screwed up and my EAD was lost in the mail. True story.

Now if they lose my green card too I have to pay $400 and wait god knows how long for them to send me another one. Truly the greatest country in the world.

Yes, this is new. My friend's GC arrived in the mail. Mine, has a tracking number and it is on its way.

Excuse me - the whole visa process took an enormously long amount of time, was fraught with problems at every turn (none originating from us), and I'm repeating - my EAD was lost in the mail (said it was delivered - it was never delivered) and I can't work because of that (that was no 'simple fix', we did everything we possibly could), and today my green card (which I don't believe requires a signature) was not delivered to me, who was in the house all day, and so they had to leave a notice, which I never got.

So I believe I do have a right to be frustrated with this whole thing, do I not?

someone told you what to do ... we are all here because we have been through some type of process... and we all know it is not easy and a long process for ALL OF US not just you... call the USPS and complain.... it is definitely the greatest country in the world and like all of the countries, it has its flaws, but do not get frustrated with this... you are just getting your GC.. there are other immigration processes to come... this is just to the beginning... good luck!

and update your timeline...

Hmm - did your friend's GC require a signature?

No, she did not have to sign. She just found her GC in her mailbox. Like two months ago.

That's what I am saying. They just put it in the mailbox. How could it have been required to sign?

why are worrying about that? if that´s how it is then just call USPS and ask for the local office to hold it and you can go and pick it up in person and that´s it... problem solved... if you do not do that, then it will be mailed back to USCIS.... you decide ....

I am worrying about everything because my EAD was lost in the mail (even though it said 'delivered' I never got it). After everything I've been through I feel as if there's a huge chance that this is also going to get lost in the mail.
