Received my biometrics appointment, worth trying an early walk-in?

I got my appointment for biometrics today and it is set for December 19th. This date is fine but my parents are coming to visit for Christmas. I was thinking about trying an early walk in (it's a 2 hour drive) to see if I could get it done. I know that it won't make the process go any quicker but is there any other risk involved in doing an early walk in besides not getting an appointment?

Thanks!

most ACS centers allow early walk in's take a chance, bring your appointment letter, two picture ID'S explain to the security guard you have and another very important appointment on that day also ask can you please have my biometrics taken thank you.

Def agree with the above, or you can always call and ask too - so you dont waste the time driving!

I looked and couldn't find the number!

I may just risk it and hope for the best. Is there any chance it'll delay the process if I do a walk in?

Unfortunately you cannot call ASCs directly.

Worst case scenario: they won't do it. It's certainly worth a try.

Can't hurt anything except you wasting time and gas on a long drive. Be sure to let them know why you want to do the walk-in and that you live 2 hours away. It might help sway them to allow it.

Does doing an early walk-in actually make the process move any faster?

We got our notice, biometrics appointment for December 17. It's a perfect day for us, I am available to drive my husband there, so we are planning to just stick to the appointment schedule -- but is there any reason to try to go earlier? At most we could shave off a week or two, but does that actually move things along any faster?

There are mixed opinions, but if it does make any difference then you're talking a handful of days at the very most. For most people I think it's more that doing a walk-in is a part of the process they can control, rather than being at the mercy of the USCIS gods (which is 95% of the time).

Does doing an early walk-in actually make the process move any faster?

I think for most folks the answer of "well, it wont slow things down if you can go early" is the flip-side.

I went the day after getting my appointment notice in the mail, and while I entered a completely empty service center I still got sh!t for doing it early from the individual at the entrance. They were able to get through everything in 20 minutes, but I guess they frown upon folks going early.

If you go in prepared to accept that they will tell you to sh!t in a hat and return on your scheduled appointment day, then there is no harm in going. But hey, in the grand scheme of things, 2 weeks is NOT a long time so I wouldnt sweat it. I suspect some biometrics notices are further down the road so in these places folks might try to shave off more than 2 weeks.

We received our notice on 6 Dec late in the mail. Our date was for 23 Dec...we have plans, so went in yesterday on 9 Dec, and were given no grief, but were told that it was up to the biometrics processor. Our office in Wichita, KS is never too terribly busy as I have been there on several occasions regarding questions about some of the forms, and as she had an empty office, she had no problem letting us do our biometrics yesterday. We turned in a comment card thanking them for the flexibility of allowing us to get it done early.

If it's not too much of a hardship to drive there with time and money, I would risk it. Being so close to Christmas, you can also say you will be visiting relatives in another state if they give you too much hassle. I wish we had gone early -- I've noticed some people have been approved after our number and they probably did an early walk in...we are still waiting and I'm kicking myself for it. It isn't so much that my husband can't work as he'd probably not start substituting until the new year and he's been doing a ton of DIY stuff - it's not being able to drive at this time of year when he'd be a huge help.

Good luck if you try to go early. :)
