You might be overlooking the obvious and that is, the only emails I have ever gotten which pro-ported to be from someone who was from africans with some tale of wiring money or Some 19 year old babe who is just looking for a good husband and age is not important.

Thats it, so surely there are other scams but not in this "story telling format." and not with such regularity.

I did have a fake Pay-pal one which looked just like the web-site a few years back,

so be careful of rushing to change your pass word due to dubious the recent breach.

Anyway I don't think anything compares to the Nigerian scammer notoriety.

The scope of the email ones is such that most people are not going to fall for them. Most of us don't really believe a long lost millionaire uncle has suddenly found us and want's to give us a bunch of money. Far more likely we fall victim to the kid at the KFC drive through window who copies down our CC number before handing it back.

That's why I think fraud at home is more likely to be a problem for most of us. I agree, the people who do fall for the email ones really get taken big time, but I don't think it's as common as it used to be. Most people are aware of it by now.

People fail to realize there are a lot of nutty people in the U.S. Now there will be people discriminating against Nigerians because they will believe "all" Nigerians are scammers now. Most people in the U.S. don't understand that just because some people in that particular race is doing something doesn't mean everyone else in that race is doing it or approve of it. And the Republicans have some, not all, but some mean followers with closed minded ideas. I have heard some of the things these people are shouting doing rally's and they are scary.

My friend on a law enforcement level you are right. IF one were to Look at fraud cases, few US cases would involve nigerian scammers.

Humor has little connection to facts.

When Bill Mahr speaks of Sarah Palin and wraps it up nicely with-

."....and thats because she can see Russia from her porch"

it's funny, not because she ever said that but because there is a perception in his audience that she dumb enough say something like that. (Never mind the fact that she didn't).

Tea party Jokes work the same way as do Peta jokes.. or Polish Jokes or anything else., you take an element of truth or a common theme and work with it.

American Nigerians should never get butt-hurt when anyone talks about Nigerian Email Scammers.

That's it. Full stop.

I'm no fan of Ted Cruz. Actually I'd never thought I'd defend the guy, but nowhere did he say or even insinuate that "all Nigerians are scammers."

He used a common and well-known fact (that many of these email scams originate from Nigeria) and tied it into a joke concerning the healthcare website. I don't understand why Nigerian-Americans in Texas would try to put themselves in the same boat by making an issue out of it. Yes, a lot of people in the US are uneducated and are otherwise unable to make distinctions here, but do we hide them from facts because of it? Should we refrain from calling Iraqi insurgents "Iraqi" because Iraqi-Americans could be hurt by that? The way to combat prejudice is to educate people, not suppressing facts.

So what?

Maybe Nigeria should clean up their act. Spare me the BS outrage. We have been force fed the most eff'd up "healthcare" plan ever and someone cares if a Nigerian is offended by Cruz's remarks?

Do you mean 419 Scams?

Please read my post again. I said that people who have racist tendencies will use this excuse as all Nigerians are email scammers.

Just like they use the all black people are on welfare #######.

Provisions of the ACA have opened a path for Vermont to finally pursue its single-payer dream.

Fair enough, but why mention Nigerian e-mail scammers at all. E-mail scams have nothing to do with website design so there is no context for the joke in the first place. The website was designed here in the US. I'm sure there are any number delinquents in this country who could be the butt of a joke.

Nope. Nothing says funny like making fun of minorities.

For someone who is pro choice, you're probably the most closed minded person here.

There are a large number of delinquents who will take anything Ted Cruz says for a lot more than what it's worth. I just think getting butt hurt over remarks like this one reinforce a stereotype of liberals pulling racist cards over the smallest remarks.
