I don't think my name has EVER been on the list of Top 100 girl's names...or boy's!

Tracy is a bit unisex, I suppose. I'm a child of the 70's...perhaps it was popular then

Tara was very popular around here while I was growing up. Mostly in Italian American families....

ETA: Here we say it with the long A like in father.

Thats how i pronounce my name as well. I hate being called Tara sounding with the A in car :)

 maybe I say father differently than you. The A's in father and car are the same...

I don't pronounce Tara like, for example, the way that the media pronounces Tara Reid.

Ok, just saw your edit.

The World's Most Popular Names

An Article From AmericanBaby.com

Rating:

By Deirdre Byrne

England, Ireland, Australia

Our country's newborn wards are full of Ashleys, Emilys, Michaels, and Matthews. But babies around the globe are being born into names that run the gamut of lengths (from Mia in Australia to Takumia in Japan), sounds (Aoife in Ireland, Zeynep in Turkey), and styles. Some even share similar name favorites, as we see with Emil in Denmark and Sweden.

Keep reading to see if your name -- or your baby's name contender -- graces the top 10 lists in these foreign nations.

England

"J" names are no joke in England! Not only do both the most popular boy and girl names begin with the letter J, but also there are three other J monikers that top the boys' list.

Australia

While the bulk of 2004's sheilas were called Charlotte, Emily took top billing for Australian girls in 2005. And attention, U.S. trendsetters: Lachlan, a name that means "feisty" and is #3 on Australia's list, wasn't found on any other top names list that we covered around the world.

Finland

Looking at the 10 most popular Finnish boys and girls names in 2004, you might think that the letters that names end in might indicate gender -- 'i' for males (as in Juhani, Osakri, and Olavi) and 'a' for females (Maria, Sofia, and Ida). Actually, the Finnish language doesn't distinguish gender with nouns -- go figure!

Sweden

While you may see names like Mahrya (Maria) or Alixzander (Alexander) on birth certificates in America, the Swedes take a simpler approach to naming their children. Names such as Viktor and Ida are spelled phonetically, which makes spelling one's name quicker and easier.

Brazil & Chile Brazil

Brazil's hottest names in 2003 have especially remarkable meanings: Tania (#1 for girls) means "fairy queen," while Fabio (#5 for boys), a form of Fabian, means "bean grower." Could one of these mean "perfect baby name" for you?

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).
