So the American consular was very nice...her interview went fine

He congratulated her afterwards

Next...she went to the window to confirm the shipping address for the visa

There was a Filipino working at the window

My fiancée asked if she could get her original birth cert. and cenomar return to her

The guy then asks her...:why her birth certificate was "registered late" (I have not looked at it but no one else along the way has questioned it except this punk)

He then told her "they will investigate it"...and he did not return it---she will now have to get a new original copy as NY state requires it for a marriage license

What do you make of this?

Was this an attempt to get a bribe?

I sure hope this is no real issue...

Also...what have people been saying about how long it is taking to get the visa into their hands after the interview???

thanks all

US Embassy asking for a bribe? No way.

They will double check the civil documents with the proper issuing authorities as they see fit. If her docs are legit, no need to worry.

oh man...what kind of delay could this cause???

We have plans set for an Oct 20 wedding...I was hoping to have her here near Oct 9 or so...

I hate the uncertainty of every step of this process...ughhh

I'm not yet done with my USEM interview. But even for tourist or business visas that I had applied for (other countries), all the NSO-issued original birth certificates are kept by the embassy. That's why it's always advisable to request for several copies of the birth certificate from NSO.

This issue has been brought up several times last year from previous VJ members. As far as I could remember, those who were registered late in their NSO birth certificates, brought with them their original baptismal certificate as a supporting document.
