So when exactly does the 5X povery limit come into play? Is it ONLY if the petitioner didn't make sufficient income? Then they will use 5x my assets, which include SAVINGS balance, personal property, + life insurance (all those 3 is considered assets, correct?)

I have no personal experience or knowledge, but from what I've read you'll need at least 3x - 5x the difference between your income and the current poverty guidelines for your household size. 3x if you're the sole sponsor who needs to use assets to make up the difference; 5x if there will be other sponsors helping to make up the difference.

Update: I asked all five couples and, amazingly, none of them knew the answer. Strange, isn't it?

Some embassies are 3Xs some are 5Xs with the K-1... depends on the embassy

I am not sure where you get the 5x number. Your income needs to be 125% above the poverty level for your family size.

If it is a spouse it has to be 3X your assets if you do not have enough income

If it is K1 or other family members it is 5X

The difference between your income and the poverty level times the 3 or 5X.

I think that is how it works. If I am wrong I am sure someone will respond.

Much appreciated, though I did not see the 3-5x difference there?
