My wife became a citizen quite a few years ago and we would like to bring her brother and sisters over. They are in Romania. What do I file and how long does it take for the process. I hear that this takes years but if Romania quota is used or not?

Any help would be great.

Nope no way to do it faster. There is the general pool and then a few extra-slow countries, like Mexico, India, Philippines.

AOS for my husband

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package

Another option is her dad can get a visa come over then can he apply for them with our support? How long would that take and is that a different form? I am guessing from reading that his would be a lot quicker but how long would the sisters take?

hi,

a little less, but first you have to file for your father, then he becomes a LPR and files for your unmarried siblings, with 8 years of waiting, so it's close to 10 years anyway, and they cannot marry, unless your father becomes a USC

immigration petitions take a very long time

What if they come here on a work visa or something like that then can they stay here while it is being processed? I think the work visa may be only for 6 months from what my niece was able to do.

Any ideas?

If there was an easy way for family to wait in the US while waiting for immigration visas, then we all would have done it already.

There are no easy way for them to "wait" in the US.

How woul you stretch a 6 months visa into a 12 years wait?

Work visas are incredibly hard to get. First, you need a US emplyer who is willing to sponsor a work visa. Second, the foreign worker must have a certain technical or scientific university degree. Third, the employer must get a Dept of Labor certification that no US worker qualifies or is available for the job thus the employe needs to bring the foreign worker to the US. Fourth, the employee must compete for an H1-b visa. This year, the yearly allotment of H1-b visas were used up in 5 days.

It took 11 years for my brother and his family to immigrate to the US. Two if his children aged out and did not get visas. It will be another 8 years for them to get visas. So 19 years for my niece and nephew to get visas.

My cousin is petitioning her siblings. They've been waiting since 2008. They will be waiting another 7 years. Some of their children will age out.

I've been on this board for 4 or 5 years.

If there was an easy way for them to wait in the US, we would have taken advantage of it by now.

Unfortunately, there is practically no chance for any of them to wait 8 or 12 years in the US.

Work visas are incredibly hard to get even for those with the right technical degrees and credentials.

Student visas are incredibly expensive when factoring in the financial requirements (at least $20,000 for each year of study - money must be in a US bank).

If there was an easy way, we all would have gotten our families here already while they wait. Unfortunately, there is no easy way.

The sibling preference may also be eliminated should Congress pass comprehensive immigration reform legislation this session. It was removed in the Senate's version.
