Medical exam

Is it possible to undergo medical exam like 3 days before the interview, i know they said at least a week before the interview date but we're really on a tight budget right now and thinking if we can save from staying in a hotel for a week and make it 3.

I wonder if there are other VJ friends who had this experience, that would be a great help to us! We are a family of 4 to travel after our visa get approved and this isn't easy for us, so we really try to budget our expenses.

thank you for your suggestion, maybe you're right. i dont mind where they gonna move my post as long as i can get answers from those who have experience, these whole process and fees are just killing me

Mostly do their medical 1 week before the interview,You can ask from your relatives to stay if they are in mnl area,so that you can save more pesos.

Do not be stress in doing medical,drink alot of water,sleep well.

Yes its possible. There have been a few here on VJ that have done the medical and interview with only 3 - 4 days in between. Never read of a family of four doing it .... hope all goes well.

thanx, and thanx for reminding me to sleep well, 5:30am here and still wide awake, worries coz the first time we applied is not successful i hope this time we will get approve! i'm just nervous rather than excited on my medical and interview

Okay I think i just found an answer to my question, silly me! i can't sleep the whole night worrying all this process and fees but i check my old passport and i actually went my medical exam on july 31, 2008 (thursday) and got my interview stamp on Agust 5,2008 (tuesday) which is 3 business days in between! i think we will just go medical on the 15th and my interview on 18th, really desperate to save money!

On your timeline it says you plan to do the medical July 11 which is a Thursday. Since you have a small child, SLEC will do a tuberculin skin test on her. The reading of that skin test will be done after 2 days, which will fall on a Saturday. SLEC is closed on weekends so they won't be able to get the skin test result and it will just expire.

Since Tuberculin Skin Testing requires an observation period of 48-72 hours, applicants 2-14 years old are advised not to come for their medical examination on a Thursday.The clinic is closed on weekends, so the TST cannot be interpreted before it expires.

I went to St. Lukes on the 2nd of July at 3 am.. it payed off cause I finished early and didnt have to go back the next day cause I passed their medical evaluation..

I know how it feels, we are all saving money as much as we can. Ok, if you go on the 15th( Monday) , SLEC will schedule your kids to go back for TST interpretation on the Wednesday, that will be 17th. If it goes negative then same day kids can have the immunization same day. If not?, they will schedule your kid/kids for an xray, then again it takes a day before they'll give you the xray result. SLEC will then schedule to go back on the 18th( which is your interview date). Sounds risky.. During our medical we're done Thursday,got both cd's. On the Monday(our interview date) embassy told me, they don't have the medical result of my son yet)... which actually before we leave the SLEC i asked them twice if embassy will have our result on time, and they promised yes ma'am., only to find out, our results were separated.

IMO, for those with 2-14 y/o who will undergo TST, to be safe, plan your medical (esp those doing advance medical just like me) at least 4days .Mon & Tue will be most beneficial (be there at 3-4am), Wed would be too risky. When I went there w/ my child on a Wednesday(July3) around 7am, I met at least 10 applicants w/ children aged 2- 12. Friday (July5), all of us went back for the TST reading between 8-10am. ALL of our children got a POSITIVE reading on the TST that required 2 additional x-ray shots. Their moms, including me really got scared because the doctor said we may not be able to proceed with the immunization until after the result of the x-ray comes out negative. Worse, St Lukes is closed on weekends, the doctor said, we maybe asked to return on Monday. Half of us, are not from Manila and had already booked return tickets while others already have their interview appointments on Monday and Tuesday. We were stressing out-due to unforseen events-additional expenses,etc. Luckily, most of the children were x-rayed before 10am and we were asked to return before 1pm for the result. Most of our kids passed and proceeded to immunization-what a relief! But 3 children who were xrayed at 11am were asked to return on Monday since they did not make it to the cut-off time.

Even if your child had her medical before, she might be due now for booster vaccines and flu (yearly). This will not shorten your process, IMO, she is still subject to an immunization interview in order for the doctor to assess her situation according to the guidelines set by US-CDC.

Because of what I experienced recently, I would really suggest having the medical at least 1 week before your interview. But, if you want to risk it on July 15- just be there very early and PRAY - hoping you will be finished on Wednesday.

thanx for all the replies, I do appreciate it all, now have to go travel agent and change our itinerary, you right must go there earlier. i miss the thursday part for my minor, maybe by trying to save it will just cost us more! again, thanx all
