Should i take a Citizenship class to prepare ?

I will be applying for Citizenship in 9 months

my local community colleege is offering free citizenship classes to get you ready for the test

i was wondering if its good to take a class or just practice on your own with the study guide off the USCIS website?

If you would feel safer, go for it.

I don't think it is necessary though. From what I have read, you get all the questions they could ask you (total of 100) from them and then you have to answer to six out of 10 correctly to pass. Personally, I would take it if the class went a little bit more in depth on U.S. history and political/legal system out of curiosity and interest, but not because of those 100 questions.

If you have trouble speaking basic English then it would be good to take a class? Otherwise, just studying the 100 questions will be enough.

They should give you a handouts at the biometrics part of it. Study that and few current events like who's the President, Senator, Mayor etc. Writing and reading part are easy, you'll simply read a sentence and write the same one on a piece of paper.

+1 above. As well, the study booklet USCIS give you at your biometrics appointment, which includes all of the questions (with answers) and all of the words used in the reading and writing tests, ALSO includes an audio CD with a track for each of the 100 questions and answers. Just pop it in your car's CD player and listen through it 2-3 times a week (it's about 35 minutes long altogether) while commuting, and you'll be able to answer the questions in your sleep by the time the interview rolls around!

The class might be fun and interesting for its own sake, and would definitely be a good way to meet fellow immigrants going through the same process, but isn't really necessary just to pass the test. USCIS give you enough free material to do that on your own.

With my stepdaughter going to college and at all times during midterms. I downloaded the test on my computer. In less than 30 minutes, edited all the questions to provide the simplest answers to those multiple questions and printed it out. By doing that, also memorized that test.

First time she looked at it was during that long drive for her interview. She needed a bit of explaination for some of the questions, but after memorizing it, was dead tired and fell asleep. While waiting for her interview, ever notice at any USCIS office, while they can reject you for being 1 second late, they always keep you waiting. She reviewed those 100 questions one more time. Said she answered the first six questions correctly that took about a minute.

I f she did miss one of the questions, would get four more chances to guess at the last one.

Ha, one of the most difficult quetions is to name the vice-president, I can't even remember that the day after. And it's Obama, not Obamacare.

I downloaded the citizenship app to my phone. When your installing it it askes for what state your in so the governors and senators questions will be for your state. It was a great app and I was able to get people around me to ask the questions as well which really helped, If you think you need the classes go for it. As a poster said I'd would have taken a class only if it went into the real meat of how the government structure went.

Are you comfortable with your English proficiency? If so, then don't bother with the classes unless you feel that self-study is not a good route for you. When you go to your biometrics appointment, you will receive a booklet with all 100 questions that USCIS requires you to study. There is a CD as well in the back to practice. These questions cover the civics, history and geography topics you need to know. The language and vocabulary lists in the back focus on what you may be asked to write, read, and/or speak.

There are great applications on Android and iPhones to practice your questions, and they are free. Plug away at them a few questions at a time, and you should do just fine.
