Don't worry. My fiance and I are both cousins and we had no problem in the interview. The CO never even asked him if we're cousins (We both have the same last name). My fiance didn't mention anything since he wasn't asked. Of course if he was asked, he would've said that we're cousins. But since he wasn't, there was no need to mention it. Either way, as long as your state allows it you shouldn't have a problem. Good luck!

Was this in the Phillipines?

I'm married to my 3rd cousin and when the CO told me how did we met I told her the truth and it was totally ok! BTW! JUST A GENETICS CLASS. Having a child with a FIRST COUSIN SLIGHTLY INCREASE THE RISK OF GENETICS ISSUE, ONLY IF IT RUNS A DECEASE OR A GENETIC CONDITIONS IN THE FAMILY. NORMALLY, GENETICS ISSUE ARE RECESSIVE GENES AND IF YOU "INBREED" THE CHANCES TO BECOME THIS GENE IN DOMINANT IS HIGHER, BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN IT WILL OCCUR. PEOPLE SHOULD STOP BEING SO IGNORANT.

I'M HAVING A BABY AND MY HUBBY AND I CHECKED WITH A GENETICS SPECIALIST AND THERE'S NO SERIOUS PROBLEMS EVEN BETWEEN FIRST DEGREE COUSINS. READ PLEASE AND STOP TALKING ABOUT WHAT YOU DONT

KNOW.

DID U KNOW THAT MOST OF THE 87% OF BABIES BORN WITH GENETICS DEFECTS COME FROM, FROM PARENTS THAT ARE NOT RELATED?

Seriously? Have you taken a biology class?

The children of first cousins have increase risks for certain diseases. That's a far cry from "deformities." This isn't a horror movie where the kids are cyclops.

My masters in human genetics and 10 years at a biotech qualifies me to address your bigoted and wrong understanding of biology.

Maybe I dont have a degree in genetics but you are not profesional at all. The increase in the risk comes from when is there a family history with certain genetic decease like Tay- Sachs, haemophilia, cystic fibromas where the gene is normally recessive, and obviously you have an increase risk if you inbreed, to have a child with any of this deceases. But if you have a history with no relevant health issues, or genetics disorder and there's no evidence of previous inbreedings the chances are very low. I met a lot of people, children from 1st degree cousins and they are perfectly normal people. I'm married to my third cousin and we have a kid which is perfectly normal and other in the way. Before getting pregnant we went to a genetic specialist, even when the risk exist is not way much over a non related couple. Even he shown us a study where states that 87% of the babies born with genetics defects come from parents who are not related at all.

Wow. Thank you for the insult. So I am not a "professional at all?"

You must be a genius then or did you stay at a Holisay Inn Express last night?

I made a simple once sentence statement. I didn't know I had to provide a lesson in genetics.

I still think you are not! because nobody ask for your opinion in genetics, the OP ask about her immigration process not about her/his chances of having a sick kid. And if you were professional, instead of freaking people out with the whole deal you could use your 10 years experience in genetics and explained that is not as bad as people with NO genetics backgrounds thinks it is.

You are late to the conversation.

I was responding to a post that has now been deleted.

In that post, the poster was claiming that cousin marriage was filth and the children would be deformed.

I was responding to how bigoted and ignorant it was.

Did you see the post where the OP thanked me?

I suspect you misinterpreted my post because the offending post was deleted.

Did you look to see how many people agreed with my post? At least 10.

I dont see the other comment the only thing I see is you telling someone about biology class and about the deceases. If that was the case that you were defending the op, my apologize. I just can stand people being so rude and ignorant about this. I can't believe we are in the 21 century and people still thinks like we were in the 13th century, not only that but people get very very disrespectful and using terms like "incest" "chromosomical challenge" "monster" an things like that. I think is time for people being so ignorant and I think it could be very helpful if the people who knows about it, explain the real facts beyond the taboo.

I ask that you read with more care before jumping down on someone who was defending the OP from a bigot.

Notice how the offending post was removed from my post and the offending poster was thread ban. The OP thanked me. At least 13 people agree with my post.

I find it offensive that you are choosing to go with "if I was defending the OP," then you apologize. Why phrase it as "if?"

You cannot see a removed post. It was inappropriate and had no place here, so it was rightly removed by a mod. They delete all traces of the comment, including in posts where it was quoted. No one else said anything derogatory towards the OP. Just that one person, who is now thread banned. http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/436311-k1-visa-cousin-couple/?p=6300445

Excuse me .. With all due respect, just because you have a biology degree doesn't make you a scientist.. And you do not know your whole blood line .. That tradition of marrying cousins goes back aways

There are various studies that show he risk is no higher than a 40 year women getting pregenbat who is not married to her cousin.

I invite you to read these before you judge or offend someone else love before you know the facts

If the marriage is banned in either place you will not get a visa. SO it has to be allowed both in the state of California and in the beneficaries country.

This is not correct. Only if the marriage is banned in the place it will be performed (usually considered to be the place the US Citizen resides) would the visa be denied for that purpose. The couple should be well prepared for the interview with plenty of relationship evidence.

Aside, in my opinion, there are a couple more posts that need to be removed from this thread.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...
