January filer RFE may in May. We filed in January this year and received and rfe to prove our relationship. We have been together for more or less twelve years now and have a 4 year old boy together. Now for my issues. The questions the asked and the way to prove a relationship are a bit hard for me. He lives in Montreal and I live in Florida, I am have never been keen at taking pictures so there are very few pictures of us together if any, when I visit I always stay with him, so no hotel receipts. We met in 2002, our parents introduced us together. Is proving a relationship limited to 2 years? How do we go about proving our relationship without pictures? I am a very shy person, so I don't really socialize well thus the lack of pictures. Is there anyone in a similar situation? and does anyone has a sample statement letter for the K-1 visa? Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks,

pictures are secondary evidence.

perhaps ask your family member or your close friend to make a supporting letter about your relationship with your fiance.

you mention you guys have child together...your son birthcertificate you could use as a primary evidence as long your name and your fiance name is written in that BC.

boarding passes you could use that too.

The longer it takes to happen the more you'll appreciate it when it does!

We were thinking of doing that, but wondered if that would be enough with the boarding passes and itineraries.

it should be enough and plus, for you just submitting your son BC will make more than enough proof. goodluck!!!

Boarding passes, iteneraries, and passport stamps are the best evidence of meeting in person at a certain time period. Other things to consider: a credit or debit card statement showing transaction in his hometown. I would focus on the two year period prior to filing as that is all they care about. These are proofs of meeting in person within 2 years. But you said that your RFE is asking for proof of relationship. Perhaps a personal statement outlining your relationship (when and how you met, how long you have been in a relationship, if it was continuous or off and on, the birth of your child, the date of engagement, etc) along with affidavits from friends and family that have personal knowledge of your relationship.

Did the RFE list examples of proofs that you could submit?

They asked for one affidavit from a friend or a neighbor, pictures, tickets, itineraries, passport pictures or scanned all pages a statement from the fiancee.

I don't think you have anything to worry about. Just provide what you can from that list in an organized fashion and return it before the due date. Pictures really are just supporting evidence.

Welcome to VJ, and good luck on the rest of your journey!

They asked for one affidavit from a friend or a neighbor, pictures, tickets, itineraries, passport pictures or scanned all pages a statement from the fiancee.

At this point, they are asking for proof, so sending in as much as you can is your best option. Birth Certificate is a good start to show you have had a relationship, but the requirement is within 2 years of filing and that age doesn't fit as far as that particular evidence is concerned, but it will show ongoing relationship so I would send a copy of that. If you have actual boarding passes for either of you or both of you, do send those and whichever one of you has traveled, send in copies of all the pages of that particular passport as well. This really should be sufficient to answer the RFE.

Personally I only sent some boarding passes and a few pictures, but the pictures (as mentioned above) or only secondary evidence. Boarding passes and the passports should be sufficient, but just send in whatever you have as they'll look at it all and from the sounds of things you should get approval from what you have available to send.

Best of luck to you.

Hey, could you please fill out your time line. It will give you an idea where you are at in filing times, it also lets us know where VSC is in processing applications.

What exactly does your RFE say? Is it asking for proof of relationship or proof that you have met face-to-face within the 2 years prior to filing?

It depends whether it is an RFE for either 1. proving your relationship together, or 2. proving that you have met in person in the last two years. If its number 1, pictures, birth certificates as you stated and any letters, emails or calls. However if its 2. and you haven't seen each other in the last two years then you have a problem as this is a main requirement. Good luck with your process :)
