Just when I thought I was finally out of the woods...

I received notice last week that the conditions had been lifted on my Green Card and my I-751 application had been approved (yippee!!). I also received an email and text saying that my card had been mailed out on May 16th, and according to the tracking was due to be delivered May 18th. Sure enough, the tracking showed it was out for delivery May 18.. BUT, the status was never updated (as of 10:59pm that day, it says "delivery status not updated") and I never received my card.

I called USCIS yesterday, and they told me it hadn't been long enough yet. I called again today, and after much waiting I got a call back. I talked to the rep (who was very nice and professional btw) and she told me they didn't know where it was and I should wait til next week. What happened to 7 days?? Furthermore, I was told that they really couldn't look into it except for requesting more info about the tracking. AND, that if it doesn't turn up, I have to pay to have a new card issued (to the tune of $400+). Doesn't seem right.. it's not like I lost it. I never even had it in hand!! I just want my card :(. Does anyone have any advice on how to contact, how to move things along, etc? This all seems completely ridiculous. I could understand paying if I lost it, but it's not fair that I have to pay for USPS's incompetency!

Did you contact USPS? They'd be the first place to ask about what's going on.

How do you track it? With a USPS tracking no.? If so, call USPS.

I know calling USCIS is often frustrating due to long wait times and the different responses you get from different agents, but I would keep calling until someone does what they're supposed to do. I had to call multiple times to check why I hadn't received my NOA-1 & Biometrics letters, and finally one of the agents decided to check and found out that they were mailed out and I had already missed my bio appt, so she put in a request for new bio! I have no clue what the other agents that I talked to did, but I bet they didn't even check their system otherwise they would've mentioned the missed bio appt!

I did. I got a different answer each time I called (x3 now). I'm going to double check with the post office tonight as they've been known to hold things and never even notify people that there's a package/letter for pick-up. One person at USCIS told me to call back today, the next said it would need to be escalated to they could start an investigation, and yet another told me that it wasn't 7 days but rather 7 business days and that I should wait 'til next Tuesday. That last person also said it could take 30 days. Maybe so, but then why does the notice say that if I don't have my card within 7 days of being notified it was mailed that I should call USCIS? The lat rep also told me I'd have to fill out the e-form to have it replaced, which, after looking into it on uscis.gov, I learned is not necessarily intended for people whose card was never received, but rather for those who had it and lost/damaged it.

So all in all, it's a typical experience dealing with bureaucracy.

The green card should be shipped with a USPS tracking number. Make sure the zip code on the tracking matches yours. If not, see my saga on 'wrong address' in this forum. Infopass appointment would be your next step.

so you had a tracking # , it was delivered (well almost) and you don't have it.

it may be that the place you receive mail knows nothing about you. If you have a mail box, or a postal box, write a name card with the names of all the folk that receive postal mail there, tape it inside the box.

It's a bit too soon, but is possible that it was returned from USPS as undeliverable, or a 'nixie' (some postal term). If that's the case, USCIS will know about it, but not the first human you talk with , the CSR. They have limited computer access.

At some point, soonish, call into USCIS, ask for an ISO (your reason being you are chasing down returned mail pieces) then when you get an ISO, here's the questions to ask:

1. my address is '234 anywhere lane, Des Moines, IA 43354' - do you show this as the current address, or no? (replace your address there)

2. do you have any returned mail pieces on me? yes? no? If yes, then

3. ask for the returned mail piece to be resent to the address that you just went over, and go over the address again.

That's it, for now.

Alternatively, you can get down to the USPS office that sorts and delivers your mail, bring the printed tracking record, and get the shift supervisor. Ask the shift supervisor (this is very important, btw, to get this human) to find your letter in the building, or give you exact record of where it went and on what days.

Run, don't walk, to your local post office and ask to speak to the postmaster. I had something similar happen, below quoted from my post May 6th:

"Card came in the mail today, after some drama of it being out for delivery...then not being delivered. I called the post office, and the supervisor drove out to find the letter carrier and find out what happened. Fortunately it was misfiled within the truck, and handed to my wife, who I instructed to wait by the truck (it parks in the same place every day while it does our route). I was 20 miles away, so I had to orchestrate everything remotely. Good thing about living in a small town, they actually got out and did the footwork right away...."
