Hey everyone

How will the immigration reform (if approved) affect those who want to file for a family-based visa, LPR and those who are close to becoming US citizens?

Thnks

You talking about the dream act? Or another kind of reform?

If it's anything like DACA then incredible slow-downs and many more months away from your loved ones while these people are processed.

Vanessa is right! In the case of DACA it slowed down all the family based visas petitions. Normally to get a Noa2 only took 5 or 6 month even less, like your case or mine but now is taking more than 7 to 11 month to get a noa2. A month ago the workload were transfer to nebraska and texas services center to try to speed things up. But yes, sinces august 2012 all this process slowed diwn dramatically.

Immigrant Visa portion of the proposed bill (S.744) is online for fun reading: http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/F?c113:1:./temp/~c113zPoJzI:e78117:

Section 2309 deals with fiancé(e) status protection. Section 2312 deals with widows and widowers. Section 2037 deals with the allocation of immigrant visas.

Full bill is here: http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c113:S.744:

From what I've read, some items will take effect right away, but the majority of the document won't take effect for a few years. Of course, this will change even more once the House of Representatives reviews it.

Part One: The K-1 Visa Journey:

USCIS Receipt of I-129F: January 24, 2012 | Petition Approval: June 15, 2012 (No RFEs)
Interview: October 24, 2012 - Review | Visa Delivered: October 31, 2012

Part Two: Entry and Adjusting Status:

POE: November 18, 2012 (at SFO) - Review
Wedding: December 1, 2012 | Social Security: New cards received on December 7, 2012.
AOS Package (I-485/I-765/I-131) NOA1: February 19, 2013 | Biometrics Appt.: March 18, 2013
AP/EAD Approved: April 29, 2013 | Card Received: May 6, 2013 | AOS Interview Appt.: May 16, 2013 - Approved Review Card Received: May 24, 2013

Part Three: Removal of Conditions:

. Yessss I know!! Actually mine took me 3 month and 2 weeks because my noa 1 was from september 30. And the OP noa2 took less than 2 month (actually he was the 1st person who helped me with my petition :) ) when 2010 and 2011 the processing times were ridiculously fast. I also met several couples with noa2 a month later after the filling. Must of the people I knew received their noa2 within 5 month. But once the DACA started back in august 2012 everything rolled down the hill. I still visit the sute cause I just received my green card and read all the topics complaining about how slow it is. But at least you belong to a super super easy embassy. Venezuela didn't have ANY rejections or denials on 2012, NONE! Well at least when it comes to visajourney members. I was the 1st vj member from vzla to have an interview and being approved on 2012, and then another 11 couples (we became very closed). There were only 2 administrative review (1 because of lacking of divorced documents and the other one there was a important age of difference so they needed further investigation) but in the end both of the cases received their visas. By december 10 of the 11 couples, were already here and happily married. So hopefully once you get your noa2 , everything will flow faster :)

Well it is definitely good news to hear that about the embassy. I haven't meet anybody yet to become friends with...that's cool you did :)

I am praying all my stuff gets done before i loose it...my fiance and i can't take it any more and the pressure is so high it's hard not to get frustrated and argue....god's will i will be posting here in a few months like you are, telling you or other how this all is temporary and how i am happily married with the love of my life. Thanks for the encouragement words :)
