Hi, this is my first post and I know this has probably been covered over and over again, but I have yet to find the answer. In the K1 packet we need to both put and sign a "Intent to Marry" what is the address used at the beginning of the intent page. Is it the same for both of us. She is in Malaysia and I am in the US.

Hi

Do you mean the K1 petition or after the NOA is approved?

If you mean the K1 petition then you need 2 letters of intent 1 from you - your address and 1 from your fiance - their address.

I have attached a word document of a typical letter of intent to marry for your information, you just need to put the correct service center on the letter as ours was in California!!

If you mean after the NOA is approved then you only need a new one from the petitioner to say that they still intend to marry with 90 days of you entering... this one needs to be Notarized

Good luck to you both

For the K-1, I-129F you use the Texas address (USCIS) for both letters, doesn't matter where you live. Once at the visa process stage you use the embassy address.

Follow the GUIDES at the top of this page, lots of help and examples there.

Is this correct? I've been reading here a long time and never ran across anyone saying this needed to be notarized.

The letters of intent for the I-129F petition can be addressed to the same Dallas lockbox address that you mail the petition to, or it can have no address at all. An address at the top is simply a letter writing formality and is not even required to be on the letter of intent.

No. Nothing in this process needs to be notarized unless specifically stated to do so in your consulate's instructions.

Well i guess if so many people are asking the question, then just like me they have read it somewhere that it is needed, Some say it is needed as i also read somewhere and some say that it is not needed as they have gone through the process without doing it.

Well i guess my thinking is if there is any doubt when you have your interview about your intent or your affidavit of support then getting things notarized wont hurt, infact it will help!! I guess its a matter of choice and i dont want to take any chances, having waited so long to get to this stage i dont want to delay the process by providing more information... Maybe they wont ask but they may!!

Also my fiance is a notary public in the states and she has been asked to notarize documents for the same visa purposes, so we have done the same!! Its up to the individuals i guess!!

Good luck anyway with your journey!!

It is the London Embassy letter of instruction (packet 3 in old language) that tells you IF your petition approval that expires after 4 months has indeed expired before you apply for the visa by sending in your DS-xxxx forms,, then London will need another letter of intent from the USC that is notarized to extend the petition date. If get on with applying ASAP, then it won't be necessary. If you get your letter from London and ignore it for 4 months, yes a new notarized letter from the USC. The beneficiary does not need a new letter of intent. Their intent is restated in the oath in the DS-156 and signed at the embassy and witnessed by the officer.

I agree with Jay Kay.

1. It doesn't matter what addess to put on the letters with the I-129F. It is a letter writing formal touch and nicety that is not being graded. What is important is that you are signing a statement. Just put "To: United States Customs and Immigration Services" and no address.

2. Things used to be notarized for this process, but that was dropped 5-7 years ago by the USCIS. If your embassy gives a specific statement, as does London for an expired petition, then follow you embassy. In general there is nothing to be notarized. We've been from K1 to citizenship without a notary.
