Can someone confirm for me whether or not the medical examination is required before applying for AOS? If I understand the guides correctly, it seems that it is required first.

Also, can someone confirm for me what all vaccinations are required?

Moved from Adjustment of Status from Family Based Visas forum to Adjustment of Status from Work, Student, & Tourist Visas forum; OP has indicated in other threads that the AOS process will be from one of the afore mentioned visas.

If you did not have a medical exam before coming to USA then, yes, you need to get medical exam. Have the civil surgeon fill out the I-693 form, put in a sealed envelope and send with AOS documents.

You can find a civil surgeon in your area here: https://egov.uscis.gov/crisgwi/go?action=offices.type&OfficeLocator.office_type=CIV

Good luck!

Yes the exam is before. You go find a Civil Surgeon and get a medical exam on your own, and send the results in with your packet (the civil surgeon will give you a sealed envelope to send in - do not open!)

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

I had my medical exam last week. I had a 2 hour drive to my nearest available civil surgeon which was a a bit annoying, but the nearest one to me is an hour away and he wasn't available for another month!!! I was quite anxious when I arrived but it was quite a simple examination, he just took my blood pressure, weighed me, listened to my chest, look in my eyes, ears and throat (oh, and then the hand down the pants and "Cough!") I had the TB test shot, which I had checked out 2 days later by my own doctor who faxed the result back up to the civil surgeon. If it swells up then it shows you have had contact with TB, not that you have it for sure, so they ask that you have a chest x-ray done, but I was all clear. They also took a blood sample for syphilis testing too. (surprised they don't check for HIV) I didn't have any vaccine records available. I have had many of the shots required or the actual diseases like chicken pox, mumps, whooping cough etc as a child, but without long winded blood tests to show I was immune I opted for the shots. The only ones they required were MMR ( measles, mumps and rubella), DTaP (whooping cough, diphtheria and tetanus)and chicken pox, which cost me $286. I'm just waiting for the sealed package to arrive so I can add it to my application pack and m,ail it all off now!

Good luck . . . hope this helps.

I helped a friend file an AOS package a couple of years back. He was anxious to file the AOS ASAP so I advised him to omit the medical exam since he was still waiting on it. The worst that can happen is that they send you back an RFE and by that time you will have the medical exam in hand. They ended up not asking for the medical exam until the interview.
