Another visa fee?

I was under the impression that there was an additional fee I needed to pay before my interview. When I log in to the Receipt Page at state.gov though, it just shows the AOS and IV fees, which I already paid. I thought that there was a new one that just started in February of this year or something?

Our interview's on April 17 so I'd like to pay it before then if possible! But have no idea how or where?? Or did I just make this up in my mind?...

Its the new Immigrant Visa Fee of $165.

You pay for it online after you receive the visa packet, before the beneficiary's departure to the US.

An instruction will be included in the visa packet.

You are thinking about the new green card fee. It doesn't get paid until after the interview.

A ha!! Thank you! That is really helpful. Each day the interview gets closer I get more paranoid I'm missing something lol.

That is good news as I'm not really rolling in USD at the moment, either.

So the beneficiary gets the info at the interview but then does it have to be paid by the petitioner i.e. the American bank acct. like with the AoS and IV? Just trying to figure out who will need the money in their bank account myself or my husband. haha

Did your fiancée get the package from the embassy? They tell you on that package what you have to do before going to the interview, I remember that I had to pay something before the interview and take the receipt with me, make sure to find out this because I know a girl who forgot about it and had to wait longer than usual just because of that, if you don't pay before the interview there is no payment accepted at the embassy. Sorry I can't remember how much I paid but it was 2 years ago

The new $165.00 Green Card Fee must be paid on-line BEFORE the intending immigrant leaves their country (if they are out of the USA) but after they recieve their POE packet (the envelope that you are not allowed to open). You need to have your Alien Number in order to pay the fee. The Alien Number is located on the information letter attached to your sealed envelope.

Thanks for the info! A few of the posters seemed to be talking about other fees that don't correspond to my situation (cr1 interview) so I got a little worried. OK, so we'll get a packet next week at the interview and pay the fee after. Thanks, appreciate it!

You'll have your interview and if you are approved they will take your passport to place the visa into. I am not sure how your country works, but in Canada I had to wait about four days to get my passport and packet back. When you get the packet DO NOT OPEN it. It will have a letter stapled or taped to the front of it that has instructions. On that letter you will find your Alien Registration number.

Then go to the USCIS website and pay the $165.00 Green Card Fee. You'll need the Alien Number to complete the steps.

The fee needs to be paid before you leave your home country.

It needs to be paid before you leave to get it in a timely manner but you have a year to pay for it.

Failure to Pay

You will not receive a green card until the required USCIS Immigrant fee is paid.

Failure to pay does not affect your lawful status. You will have your passport stamped showing your lawful admission and permanent resident status. This stamp is valid for one year but it is strongly advised that you pay the immigrant fee as soon as possible to avoid delays in receiving your Permanent Resident Card.

K-1 visa chasers not pay this fee, it's only for immigrant visa holders.

hey all thanks for your advice on this. my husband's leaving for the US in 1 1/2 weeks for a fellowship interview, so i just paid the fee! like you all said there were instructions in the packet we got from the embassy after the visa interview. thanks for the tips.

The only weird thing was the last 2 digits of the NVC case number don't fit on the online form, and it was hand-written on the packet we received without those digits, too. So I put it in that way on the form. Hopefully it works, at any rate the A number fit fine.
