ok guys so i had my second fingerprint appt as my first did not take, i have read that they wont tell you that the 2nd set didnt take until you are at your interview, and it looks like they will need a police clearance letter, which i already have gotten in anticipation of this. So my question is will they accept that at the time of the interview? or would i need to wait for them to tell me thats what they need and get the neccessary forms and send it in. also i got it in April and again my fingers are horrible so i knew this would be an issue

I received this today.........On June 10, 2013, we placed your application in the oath scheduling que. We will send a notice when the ceremony is scheduled. If you move prior to the scheduled ceremony, please use our Change of Address online tool to update your case with your new address or call our customer service center at 1-800-375-5283.

I am so glad to hear this news. My case is so complicated because of my long absences from the states and not filing taxes or keeping a lease here during my travels. I was away for 8 months (within the last 3 years. The trip was 364 days originally) in one single trip because my wife was conducting a field research overseas (PhD student). We didnt pay taxes or keep a lease during that year. I applied for a travel permit which I didnt get because of some problem with the check that I sent. My wife and I sent a cover letter detailing our circumstances and a good load of initial evidence.

I consulted with two lawyers to make sure I know how to respond to USCIS. But I didnt need to provide any more information or evidence. I wasnt approved at the interview! I starting acquiring more evidence to send but then this message came in today.

I was prepared for a dential, and I'm still not excited because there might be some mistake. I will give them a call today!

If you can't change your mind, are you sure you still have one?

I went to my naturalization interview on 6.6.13. The interview itself was uneventful. The IO first went through my packet to make sure all my supporting evidence was present. Then she went over the oath statements with me. She asked me 6 questions on the civic test (that I passed) and had me read and write a sentence in English which I also completed uneventfully.

The IO then stated that there was a memo in the system that says my passport number does not match in their system. I proceeded to inform her of the situation in 2005 when my passport was stolen (see incident below).

Now an incident happened back in 2005 when my passport was stolen on my visit to Nigeria right before I was to return to the US. My family and I had to scramble to get a new passport, and request another interview at the embassy to get another student visa issued. We provided a police report and affidavit to the US embassy, and all other embassies/consulates that I had current visas for (Canada, United Kingdom, Shengen visa etc) just to make sure that everyone pertinent was aware of the situation. I received a new US student visa and left Nigeria the day after I received it. My new passport had a stamp in it with the no of my stolen passport and a memo stating that I had previously used that passport no, but it had been stolen.

On my journey back, I was first stopped by immigration in the U.K. as my passport had already been flagged (apparently who ever stole the passport had used my UK visa to attempt entry into the UK). I gave all the information (police report, affidavit) to the UK immigration officer and was cleared to enter the UK. I was in the UK for a few days before going on to New York.

Now onto the last leg of the journey when I landed at JFK, I had been on the immigration line for almost two hours when I saw an immigration officer walking around with a large size picture of my face and when he spotted me, he pulled me out of the line and asked me to follow him to a near by room. I was then asked why I was traveling on a stolen passport. This came as an absolute shock to me!!! I told them, I have no idea what they were talking about as I was the person whose passport got stolen and I reported it to all the pertinent institutions including the american embassy, which is the only way I was able to get a new student visa. Well, while in the back room, the officer made some phone calls and verified that I was indeed who I said I was and that the information I gave them was accurate. I was allowed to go through immigration and enter New York. I have not had any issues with my passport since this incident and even through my greencard process. In 2012, I had to get a new passport because the Nigerian government changed our passports to an E-Passport system and in order to fly with our Nigerian passports (after a deadline given) we all had to receive new e-passports.

So basically, the IO said my passport numbers did not match. Well I had a copy of the three passport nos that I now possess (1. the passport stolen in 05, 2. the passport received after the first one was stolen, and 3. the new e-passport I received in 2012). This is all information that she was aware of, because she she was looking at her computer screen and acknowleding everything I was saying.

At the end, the IO said she did not have any issue approving me but she needed to write up some memos regarding the whole passport situation and bump it up to her supervisor. She told me that I shouldn't worry, they just needed to make sure that everything matched up accordingly.

I checked on the uscis website and it indicated that my case is in post decision activity-"your paperwork is being reviewed by a supervisor". So now Im basically waiting to see what the end results will be.

I did not think the passport situation would be an issue because all necessary followup was done as soon as the incident happened so that in the future it would not be a problem.

Now its a waiting game.

Today was the final step (Seattle office). 7:30am appointment, so I had to wake up at 6am and take the bus ugggh.

They didn't call my name till almost 9. The waiting room has CNN on, with obama talking about immigration reform. No cellphone service, which sucked.

The immigration officer was quite interested in all the trips around the world I'd taken (I have a Pakistani passport and have travelled extensively to Pakistan/Iran/Egypt/Tunisia and other similar middle-eastern countries) - did I go with someone, if I met someone, which places I liked or disliked and so on. Then he gave me the citizenship test: First read and write "What is the capital of united states / Washington is the capital of united states".

- What does the Cabinet do?
- If POTUS and Veep die, who becomes prezzie?
- How long does a senator serve?
- What did the declaration of independence do?
- How many SCOTUS justices are there?
- Name a branch of government.

I failed.

No wait. No one fails this ridiculous test. I was done by 9:20.

Next, same-day oath ceremony at 10am - pledge to protect the US, bear arms if needed, renounce all other allegiances and a video-montage about diversity with a message from the president. A nice old lady gave a speech on how we are equal now to her.

More video montages of how amazing and free america is, set to "atleast I know I'm free, god bless usa" song. I shed some tears.

Got my "You're a citizen" certificate, registered to vote in the next election. Will apply for passport in next 1-2 days.

The entire process took my about 10 years from the first time I stepped foot in the US on a student visa, then h1b, then greencard, then citizenship.

Congratulations Nomiiiii!!!!!!

Today was the final step (Seattle office). 7:30am appointment, so I had to wake up at 6am and take the bus ugggh.

They didn't call my name till almost 9. The waiting room has CNN on, with obama talking about immigration reform. No cellphone service, which sucked.

The immigration officer was quite interested in all the trips around the world I'd taken (I have a Pakistani passport and have travelled extensively to Pakistan/Iran/Egypt/Tunisia and other similar middle-eastern countries) - did I go with someone, if I met someone, which places I liked or disliked and so on. Then he gave me the citizenship test: First read and write "What is the capital of united states / Washington is the capital of united states".

- What does the Cabinet do?
- If POTUS and Veep die, who becomes prezzie?
- How long does a senator serve?
- What did the declaration of independence do?
- How many SCOTUS justices are there?
- Name a branch of government.

I failed.

No wait. No one fails this ridiculous test. I was done by 9:20.

Next, same-day oath ceremony at 10am - pledge to protect the US, bear arms if needed, renounce all other allegiances and a video-montage about diversity with a message from the president. A nice old lady gave a speech on how we are equal now to her.

More video montages of how amazing and free america is, set to "atleast I know I'm free, god bless usa" song. I shed some tears.

Got my "You're a citizen" certificate, registered to vote in the next election. Will apply for passport in next 1-2 days.

The entire process took my about 10 years from the first time I stepped foot in the US on a student visa, then h1b, then greencard, then citizenship.

Today at 1:23 PM I received email and also already update from USCIS website :

Oath Ceremony

On June 12, 2013, we scheduled you for your oath ceremony and sent a notice providing the date, time, and location. If you move prior to the scheduled ceremony, please use our Change of Address online tool to update your case with your new address or call our customer service center at 1-800-375-5283
