Hey guys! I was just curious, I was looking at the AOS for k1 filers, after they get married.

I was confused though. After filing, you get your 2 year green card, right? Does it really take that long? I remember people saying it didnt take so long but VJs guide makes it seem like it takes years to get the 2 year green card after filing?

So when filing you really do have to add the work authorization form and advnced parole or he wouldnt be able to work or travel for a long time??

Also, after the 2 year green card, do you just wait for it to expire(or almost) then file for the 10 year green card? then you have to wait for that again to expire to apply for citizenship?

Doesnt sound right and maybe Im just searching wrong but I cant find any posts about this. Sorry if its a lame question but Id love if someone would tell me!

the timeline for adjustment of status varies, it takes so long for some people and some did not even have to wait for so long. I suggest you file the employment authorization and advance parole together with your I-485 , it takes at least 60 days for it to get approved and 1 year validity, so if you want to work while waiting for your Greencard, or want to travel outside the US, you can. you can also use it as an ID.

You will get a conditional greencard which has 2 years validity and you must file Removal of condition (to get the 10 year GC), 90 days before your conditional Greencard expires.

I am not sure what guides are making you think it takes years to get the green card. You file the I-485 and the I-765(EAD) and I-131(AP) at the same time. The fees for the EAD and AP are waived when filed with a pending I-485. The EAD/AP is received in 2-3 months. Green card approval takes an average of 4-9 months. The EAD/AP is used to work and re-enter the US when traveling while you are waiting for your green card to be approved. http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1k3aos

The green card will be a 2 year conditional card. You must remove conditions(ROC) on the card by filing an I-751 in the 90 day window before your green card expires. The green card you receive upon approval of ROC is valid for 10 years. http://www.visajourney.com/content/751guide

You can apply for citizenship after you have been a permanent resident and married to the same USC for 3 years, or a permanent resident for 5 years: http://www.visajourney.com/content/naturalization_requirements
